Question about Refrigerators

Kenmore refridgerator 78285892 Freezer light won't work

This fridge is probably 10-12 years old. Freezer on top. The freezer light burnt out. I replaced it with a 40w appliance bulb but the light won't go on. Ice maker works, Everything else fine. Also How does the light KNOW when to go on? The freezer does not appear to have a on /off switch that activates when you open the door....Smart light?
Thanks
Amy

Dr Cool. thanks. we will check the socket with a tester. Still curious, how does the light know to come on when the door opens?? No on/off spring button on the door.

Probably a bad socket. 10-12 years old metal would not likely to last inside a freezer box.corrosion could have eaten the metals...

it could have a door switch at the hinge because magnetic door switch were probably not invented yet ten years ago. that's how they are now a days.

Sounds like you have a relay switch or igniter not working. If it is less than 6-8 years old, this probably,is the problem.

Side by side refridgerator part too warm

Make sure the small door between the freezer and fridge is open. It should be at the top towards the rear on the wall between the fridge and freezer. Thermostat controls its open/closing. And make sure freezer is in fact freezing and you don't just have residual cold in it. Freezer should be about 0 dertees.

Top Freezer working, Bottom Fridg not.

ice block has formed in the air exchange from the freezer to fridge. Turn off and thaw out, afterwards, check to see if the fan motor is running unobstructed. If problem persists, replace fan motor with new

Kenmore Elite bottom freezer refridgerator

I just went through this with my refridgerator and actually posted one of the questions. Here is what I found ........

In the freezer compartment behind the panel there is an evaporator fan which pulls cold air from the freezer and pushes it up into the refrridgerator compartment. If the fan is not working it is one of three things.. 1) there is so much frost in the fan area the fan blade is stopped and cannot push the cold air into the refridgerator compartment or the air channel is blocked. 2) there is no electricity going to the fan (usually tied to the door switch of the refirdgerator compartment, and 3) the motor is dead and will have to be replaced.

Solution to #1 - defrost but there is another problem in the "frost-free" part of the system which must be addressed or the frost will return and it will happen again in the future.

Solution #2 - check to see there is power to the fan. (most are 110VAC but some are 100VDC. Use a meter and check)

Solution #3 - If there is power, the motor is dead. Replace the motor. Be aware that AC and DC motors are different and replace per manufacture's specifications.

Freezer works but refridgerator warm

you could find ice behind the back panel - worth a check. however the problem is probably ice in the return vent from fridge to freezer and the only way to cure is to switch off and leave for a day with doors open. if im right and you try this, if it re-occurs you may have a problem with the defrost system
