Question about Samsung Q1 Tablet PC

1 Answer

Touch Screen won't work on Windows

I just got the Samsung Q1 from a friend who complained that the touch screen didn't work anymore. Everything else still works, so I took it from him, figuring that I could eventually find a way to fix it. He thought it was a hardware problem, but just this morning I was fidgeting with all the buttons, trying to figure out all the features (he lost the user guide, so I'm on my own figuring everything out) and I noticed that you could push the power button in the opposite direction and it took you to the AVStation. I accidentally touched the screen with something and the mouse moved to the place it had touched. I got out the stylus and poked around. Touch screen works perfectly on AVStation, but when I switch it over to Windows it doesn't work at all. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is it running Windows TabletPC operating system? This version of the OS includes support for the touch screen.

There is also a known Microsoft problem that this might be related to. You can check out this link for more information:

BTW, Microsoft does not charge for calling to get a hotfix like the one listed in this article.

How to fix not working touchscreen? Do i have to replace it?

The Samsung Q1 is a hybrid, ultra-mobile, touch-screen device that is basically a very small tablet PC. It features a 7-inch screen, weighs a mere 1.7 lbs., features a Windows operating system, doesn't have a built-in keyboard, and comes in a variety of configurations. The Samsung Q1 doesn't offer outstanding battery life, but you can make some moves to boost your computing time.

Dim the Screen

Dim the screen brightness. Four programmable application-launch buttons occupy the right edge of the Q1. One of these, the menu button, calls up frequently-used controls, including screen brightness. Reduce the screen brightness as much as you can, as it's one of the best ways to extend battery life.
Close Power-hogging Apps

Close applications and browser windows when you're done with them. Too many open programs drain the battery. Beware power-hogging apps. Watching a video or listening to music on your Q1 drains your battery life much faster than just using Microsoft Word or checking email. Turn off the Wi-fi networking when not in use. The built-in Wi-fi searches for a network when you're not connected, which drains battery life.

Properly Caring for and Feeding a Battery

Unplug the Samsung Q1 after the battery is fully charged. Leaving your Q1 plugged in 24/7 leads to some discharge from the battery. Consider buying a bigger battery. A 3-cell battery comes with most configurations of the Q1, but you can also buy a 6-cell battery to double the battery life.

Room Temperature is Best

Don't expose the Q1 to harsh conditions. Keeping the device in a blazing hot car in direct sunlight harms your battery life. If you use your Q1 in conditions above 95 degrees Fahrenheit, you can permanently damage the battery. Cold conditions don't harm the battery in the same way, but if you leave the Q1 in the cold, let it warm to room temperature before you use it.

I hope you find it very helpful. Best regards.
