The drive can be used as a FTP server. It is a Network drive. When I type inHTTP://......../login.html I should get a Lacie login page. All i get is an ERROR message: FW-1 at gmsfw:1 Access deined or Failed to connect to WWW server. I have tried opening Ports { Port Forwarding} on my router, still no luck. hmmmmm

Strange. I know on regular FTP sites (including my own), I have to use the "ftp://address:port" method.

I am wondering if it's the routers firewall itself restricting access? (if it has one)

I need to be able to access my external hard drive while using my laptop computer.

go into the internet connect section ( control panel area)and set up a share service
identify each computer and you will get a share password from one of the computers
enter that into the other computer and eventually the two system will be connected
check share files , drives etc and the on the lap top you will have reference to the external hard drive on the pc which you click on and all those files will be available
If you do not have a manual on how to do it , get an IT geek to come in and set it up for you

Wifi says connected but no internet

To make sure that the ARCHOS can recognize the presence of the WiFi access point, go to Menu > Settings > Wireless controls > WiFi settings and then see what is listed under the section "Wi-Fi Networks". One or several WiFi access points should be listed.

If the access point you want to connect to is not listed, then it might be
• Because the router/modem is not switched on.
• Because the router/modem access point is set to not broadcast its identity (even though it is available for use). Ask the manager of the WiFi modem/router to temporarily enable the identity (SSID) broadcasting. To do so, one would have to go into the settings of the router/modem either by using the web browser or a special application program that came with the router/modem. Search for a setting that has a name something like "Hide SSID" and make sure it is off. Once this is done, the ARCHOS should recognize the access point and be able to connect to it. The ARCHOS just needs to connect once and it will "know" this access point - even when it is later "hidden". The WiFi router/modem can then be set back to "Hidden SSID". In general, hiding the SSID of your modem/router is ineffective as a security measure so you might as well just leave it on.

I am unable to connect to the internet. I am asked for a password. where do I find this. The unit is an archos 7 home tablet

first you must have an ISP Internet Service provider contract which will provide you with a modem and leads you can choose either a dial up,usb,or an ethernet connection to connect to the internet or if you have a laptop you can choose a wireless usb modem which can work on a desktop aswell once you recieve the modem just insert the disk provided and follow the prompts to set up your new internet connection
during the setup process you will be asked for a password I suggest you make a log of all pass words used outside of your computer incase of memory lapses

you might have put in the wrong password or user id check to make sure you have put these in correctly first make sure the caps lock is on/off what ever applies to your user and password id that you provided to your ISP
make sure your routers settings are correct ie:password user name, firewall settings to allow your internet to connect also test the lead/s whether usb or ethernet you might check your modem first to make sure that you are getting a connection
last resort ring your ISP internet sevice provider get them to check your modem for internet access online
hope this helps

WD Mybook - can't access "Public" folder!

Windows firewall would be local workstation only - is your company deploying a hardware firewall solution. The ports would need to be opened to allow that traffic in. Like on your router you needed to open UDP ports for the mybook to get out. You need to so the same to allow traffic to get to the device.

I'm assuming the device is plugged directly into a router. You should consider on the router creating a DMZ for the worldbook to reside in. Of course you need to understand what that means for your data. If it is not sensitive data than a router DMZ provides enough security, if it is senstive data I would not advise that. Too many evil doers on the internet.

After instaling mionet i loose my ip-settings

the problem is another Filter Driver on your Network Card. MioNet installs a WinPK Filter Driver (you can't see it under the "This Connection Uses" list under Windows XP, but you can under Vista) on all of your NICs, so if there is a filter driver from other software, such as your Internet Security, you can lose Internet connection. Go to Control Panel > Network Connections, right-click on either wireless or local area connection, and go to properties. Check the "This connection uses the following items:" box for anything with the word Filter in it, select it, then click Uninstall.

MioNet is also not compatible with the following programs for this very reason:
Sygate Personal Firewall
Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall
AOL Xdrive

ipconfig /all does NOT retrieve the IP's of all the devices on a home or any other network.  ipconfig /all only lists IP's assigned to the network interfaces running on the local computer.
