Re: programing for uniden bearcat scanner bc 144xl
Danval, I looked up a pic of your scanner and it is pretty straightforward. If it is the 16 channel I was looking at, here is the step by step programming. 1- Push manual button to go to the channel you want to start programming. 2- Enter the freq number in. 3- Push the E button to enter it in the memory. 4- To review what you programmed, push the Review button. 5- Use manual button to step to next channel and start over from #2 That should get you started with the scanning hobby. The scanner has a Priority button that when activated will stop scanning and go immediatly to the priority channel if someone keys their mic. If you need freq's (or more of) for your area, go here and click on your state and county and it'll give you a complete listing. http://www.radioreference.com/apps/db/ Hope this helps you out, let us know,, Mechanic

The BC144XL is one of the few scanners that I haven't been able to locate a manual for, but programming it is fairly straight forward. Here's some guidance from Uniden:
Here are basic instructions for programming nearly all of the older scanners that Uniden produced.
When the scanner is turned on press the MANUAL key, then press the
channel number that you want to program first, then the MANUAL key
again. This will stop the scanner from scanning and hold it on the
channel that you want to program. Then you enter the frequency (be sure to use the decimal point
in the right area when entering in the frequency) and then press the E
or ENTER button to save the frequency on the channel. You are now
finished programming the channel. To advance to the next channel simply
press the MANUAL key and enter your next frequency the same way that
you entered it on the previous channel (as described at the beginning
of this paragraph).
If it's indeed a BC-100 and not a BC-100xlt, the 16 channels are easy to program and use. 1. Press MANUAL 3 MANUAL with 3 being the number of the channel you wish to program. 2. Enter the frequency for that channel (e.g., 162.55) followed by ENTER. 3. Follow the same sequence for each channel you wish to program, except that pressing MANUAL after you program a channel will advance the scanner to the next channel.
To scan, simply press the SCAN button after your frequencies are programmed.
