S video displays, but Component video is intermittant

My DVD player has component video and S-video outputs.

If I connect my DVD player to the TV via the S-video the TV displays perfectly. However, if i connect the same DVD played to the component inputs, the TV will display for a while then go blank. After a while the display returns and then goes blank agin. DVD is 480p..

Any ideas?

DVD is fine, it outputs Component video to other TVs just fine.

DVD previously worked fine with this TV in S-video or component mode.
Now when I select the component video inputs, it displays just fine for a moment correctly then black screen as if no input, comes back, then black, repeats, etc.

TV reacts to other component video sources (Cable TC box, different DVD player) the same when connected to TV. S-video OK, Component unstable.

Yes, Cables are fine. Used them on another DVD/TV with component input and they are just fine.

Y signal when applied to normal video input displays proper black and white display. However, when connected to the correct component input, it appears that horiz sync cannot be obtained.

Check the options meny of your DVD player, there might be some settings for configuring the component output. I would also see of this is happening for all component devices (borrow an Xbox 360 or another DVD player), if it does that it may be a problem with your TV.

My mother has a cheap DVD player and when it is connected by component to there brand new Sony LCD TV the picture is tinted pink, I have determined that it is the DVD player that is causing the problem so they are sticking to S-video until they get a new DVD player.

Shall we assume that the DVD is fine, before addressing the TV issues? Does it work with any other device or component? Seems that if your S Video is clean, then it's just a matter of refining whether your DVD is as well. Check that, and let us know.

so your component input is totally unhappy, is that fair? I suspect that you are working with an unhappy system board.

try different type inputs on your TV-
HDMI, component, composite

then look in the menu of your DVD player- with no disc in it- find "setup menu"
then find "video output format"- select the one you are using on the TV, the options will be
HDMI, YpBpr (component) , video out (composite)

Picture in picture operation & connection to dvd player

Now--first--connect the DVR cable box HDMI output to the HDTV HDMI input (use the lowest numbered one e.g. HDMI 1) for this connection. Use a standard (not Monster brand) HDMI cable for this connection. Then turn on the TV, turn on the cable box and switch the TV to the HDMI input. A picture should come on. You may even hear the audio on the TV speakers. If so, that is OK.

Then--connect the component video output of the DVD HT to the TV component 1 input. Use a three wire component video cable with red, blue and green connectors on each end. Connect color to color on both ends. Then turn on the DVD, put a DVD in the player and start it running. Switch the TV to the component input and it should show a pix. The audio will come from the DVD player speakers.

If your DVD player does have an HDMI output, you can use it and just connect as above to the second TV HDMI input.

To get audio from the cable box out of the DVD player speakers, you will need to connect an audio cable from the cable box go the HT amplifier. Use a set of RCA patch cables and go from the analog audio output of the cable box to the rear panel audio inputs of the DVD player. The owners manual for this unit will give directions on using this input. Since your HT unit does not have any other inputs, you will not be able to get Dolby Digital audio.

Hope this gives you food for thought. If so, and you have more questions, just come back in with a follow up.

Good luck. Remember, the owners manuals all have hook up connections diagrams. Sometimes they will help.

Dont forget to rate me as fixya..

How do I change my remote for TV to Input Video 1?

There should be a button on your remote denoting "Input." If you connect the DVD player to the TV on "video input 1" then push the input button on the remote or TV itself until the DVD appears on your TV (which will be Video 1). Some TVs must have the component (in your case) the "DVD" player connected to the TV before the TV will recognize it. Make sure the DVD is powered up and then push the input button until the DVD player appears on the TV. Depending on your TV inputs, there may be multiple inputs like, Video, Component, DVI, or HDMI. The above are listed in the respective order of "quality." HDMI being the best. Whatever input you hook the DVD player up to on the TV will be the "input" you will look for when pressing the input button. Hope this helps.

I just purchased a Sherwood RD 6513 reciever, I'm trying to connect a hd cable box (motorola dch 3200), dvd player (sony dvp ns710h) and a rca hd tv (l32hd41). I connected hdmi cords from both components...

Hi! I will be more than glad to assist you. I f you are going to hook up your cable box - motorola to the sherwood receiver, connect an hdmi cable to the back of the motorola cable box, there is only 1 hdmi output there, then connect the other end to the sherwood receiver on the hdmi input, then connect another hdmi cable to the hdmi output and the other end goes to your rca hd tv.

for the sony dvp, you have only one hdmi out, connect an hdmi cable to the back of the sony dvp if u have another spare. connect it to the hdmi input of the sherwood receiver. there is only 1 hdmi output at the sherwood, so u need to use a component cable to be connected at the back of the sherwood receiver component output then the other end goes to the component input of the hd tv.

if you dont have anymore hdmi cable to hook up your sony dvp, u can use component cable, the connection will goes like this, connect a component cable on the output of the sony dvp and the other end goes to the sherwood component input then connect another component cable to the component output of the sherwood and the other end goes to the rca hd tv on the component input.

I hope this will solve your concern, if you have any question, u can get in touch..

Mitsubishi 55 in. 1080 series

If I remember correctly, this TV has a couple of constraints that will cramp your style:

1. It supports 480i, 480p and 1080i. NO 720P
2. It has component video inputs, but NO HDMI. (as you stated)

There is no easy solution here, because I've never found an upconverting DVD player that would upconvert anything past 480p using the analog component outputs...

So..

Perhaps you can find an Upconverting BLU-RAY disk player that may allow older DVDs to be upconverted to 1080i via the component outputs.

MOST Blu-Ray players allow 1080i output via the analog connections on Blu-Ray discs, so perhaps there is your solution.

Try the DVD player on another component connection on the TV. If the picture is still distorted try another DVD player or something with component output. If thre picture is normal with another input device then the issue is the DVD player,

Rca sound system hooked up to the tv the dvd pictures is black and white

I see three possible problemos:

1: You are using a composite connection and your tv is downright crappy at displaying a composite feed--I know mine is. Try upgrading to component if your tv supports it. If not use a s-video connection.

2: You are using an s-video connection and there is some connection problem, either in the DVD player, the cable connectors, the cable itself, or the s-video input on your tv. Upgrade to component if your tv supports it, otherwise try the cable and DVD player out on another tv to see if the tv is the problem, or use the cable on a different DVD player to see if the cable is the problem.

3: You are using component input only two of the cables are loose OR you are only using the green-colored cable. Either plug in all three component cables (red, green, blue) or try pressing the cables in while watching to see if that fixes it. You may need a better cable, some of them are crappy at staying in.

No Picture from Component Input #1 or #2 but do have audio via Surrond Sound

Simplest thing would be that your component cables are not HU'd correctly. Having them reversed would do this.
