I am unable to fax to 804 area codes. The fax on the other end will pickup and screech, then our fax will start sending and then stop in the middle and Communication Error. I have noticed this only happens on 804 area codes. I am dialing from 276 area code. Any suggestions?
If the fax works in all other instances other than when you dial a certain area code I would say the problem is definately not associated with the machine itself. I have never heard of this type of problem. I would contact your phone company and tell them your situation and see if they have any advice from their end.

If this is happening to only one number you're trying to fax to, then the problem is most likely on their end, not yours. If it is happening with all the numbers you fax to, then I would suggest checking the telephone line hooked to the fax. Look for loose connections, or perhaps a bad cord from the phone outlet. The connection could be good enough to get a dial tone, but not secure enough for the fax to operate. If none of that holds true, I would suggest taking it to the shop and let a technician look it over.
It could be either or but normally its the connection.
The only thing that could stop you from sending a fax or not get a dial tone, would
be the connection to the phone line. Make sure the telephone wire is
plugged into the line jack (not ext jack) and should go straight to the wall, without
splitters or extensions. If you still cannot send a fax, try another
wire or jack.
Code 48 is internet disconnect.
On the machine if the machine is set up for internet connection, turn it off. Sometimes email is turned on and the other settings are not setup correctly.
Make sure all settings are done correctly
If one is faxing make sure the phone line is connected correctly and their is a good sounding dial tone.
One area to keep in mind is a phone dial tone turning off and on.This can be a phone company issue or poor line connectors in the building, even a corroded plug on the phone receptical.
Check these areas, even replace the phone line cord with a new one.
On the machine a fax machine not sending or recieivng, suspect a board causing the problem.
If you can copy ok you have effectively ruled out your machine as you have used both the scanning and printing mechanism of the machine.
It will probably be the fax on the other end as if it sends a poor quality page that's all your machine can receive, a poor line can also cause problems if it is from multiple faxes. If so have your provider check the line (you probably hear static on the line).
You can adjust the Compatibility mode. This adjusts the sensitivity of the machine to interference on the phone line by lowering the transmission speed:
a. Press Menu, 2 (Fax), 0 (Miscellaneous), 1 (Compatibility)
b. Press Up or Down arrow to select "Basic"
c. Press OK.
d. Press Stop/Exit.
e. Try resending the fax. If the problem continues we recommend you try the unit on another line at the current location or another location. Always restart your machines after you made changes, that way you will see the results.
