Question about Mitsubishi WD-52525 52" Rear Projection HDTV

Tv Shuts off occasionally 1min upon power up shows red lamp light

About two months ago I replaced the lamp and everything has been fine uptill now. when you turn the tv on the sounds comes on but now picture. Then after about a minute or two the TV shuts down and displays a red lamp light. (This only happens occationally. Sometimes the TV powers up fine and runs great.)

The replacement bulb was a different part number than on the back of the tv, but was supposed to fit my tv so the store said. When I received the bulb it was only the bulb and didn't come with the housing. I removed the old lamp from the original housing and installed the new bulb in the old housing.

I have been reading about different arc lengths could this be my problem or is it a ballast problem, or is it just a bad lamp?

What is the ballast and where is it located? Is it something I can change myself?

Thanks,
Ross

Here's something that might also be useful. After you turn on the set, and get the regular red blinky lights, hold down the Device and Menu buttons together for about 5 seconds.
The Power light will start to flash in a two digit sequence.

For example, 3 flashes, then 7 flashes = 37.

Here are the error codes, and the corresponding problem:

12 = No error detected, check power supply.
32 = Lamp Cover is open.
33 = Air filter cover is open.
34 = Lamp abnormality
36 = Light Engine (DMD or Lamp Fan stopped)
37 = Exhaust or Lamp Ballast Fan stopped
38 = Lamp Temperature High
39 = DMD Temperature High
41 = Short is detected
44 = DVI cable between FMT and Engine disconnected

Panasonic TV shuts off after a couple minutes

Good day!!!!

That problem is usually cause of faulty capacitors on the power supply board..

Just follow this instruction to fix your TV..

1. Open the back cover of your TV.
2. Look at the power supply board..Its normally connected to the power cord..
3. After that,,try to look at the actual image of capacitors if it is bulged on the top so that you can easily determine the bad capacitors..
4. After that,,try to replaced the bad capacitors using soldering iron and soldering lead..replaced the capacitors only with the same type ratings and value..
5. Some of the capacitors not bulged so its better if have a capacitance meter

Samsung HLP5085W DLP - lamp replaced about 7 months ago. I powered up TV and got strange colors with flickering picture. Turned unit off and triangle symbol appears with lamp showing - needs replacement....

Strange colors and flickering picture symptom shows problem with color wheel and/or dmd board.
Lamp is only light source in dlp tv and it has nothing with colors or picture flicker.
TV goes to protection mode because of some internal problem as mentioned above.
If you wish to repair tv by yourself then you should have service manual copy in hand and that can be downloaded from HERE for small fee.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

I have the same TV and just replaced the same lampTY-LA1000.
You have to reset the clock that times the lamp.Hold down the volume button(first you turn on the TV) while holding down the PiP button or the swap Button on the remote. that fixed mine.

Probably needs an original SONY lamp instead of the "replacement" lamp you put in.

WD-52525 Shuts off, shows red lamp light even after replacing lamp

Turn on the set and let it shut down. push in the Menu and Device (or input, I don't have a schematic in front of me) buttons on the front of the set at the same time and hold until the green light starts flashing. Then release. There will be two different sets of flashes, such as, 3 and 6. The code 12 means the set is opperating fine. The other codes will tell you what part of the set needs repaired. Also, remove the bulb and check the ballast connection to the bulb. I find the connection for the bulb bent over when a customer replaces the lamp sometimes. Let me know what you find and we can go from there.
