Question about Televison & Video

Convergence problem I hava a Pioneer rear projection TV that has a convergence probem, the main convergence is ok, the problem is with the outer edges convergence, its the blue outer edge convergance that can't be adjected, the rights edge can be adjected, the top and lower right also, but the upper left, lower left and the bottom middle all cannot be adjusted, I looked for open resistors and bad capacitors, I did not see any 392-110 in set, just where is this model is the convergence board located, there is a large heat sink with a small IC on the power supply board, but I could not read the numbers.

In order to help you more, it may be a good idea to go to the above web address and see if there is a repair manual for your model.

Your convergence system may have stopped functioning properly. Repairing it usually entails replacing the OP ICs, on the convergence board. That board is to the left side, vertically mounted, as you look at the inside of the back of the unit, back plate removed
The conv board is a 2 level board, with one board on top of another one.

The ICs are in between the 2 boards. They are mounted to the bottom board, and there is alot metal plating taking up space , making soldering on it very challenging.

the E3 and E2 connectors, as well as two IC connections may have cracked solder joints. Using a fine point heat controlled iron, reflow all of these joints.
Check for other questionable solder joints.
    These are just suggestions.
UNPLUG POWER FIRST! It is not worth getting hurt just to save a few dollars.

What model number of Pioneer TV set do you have? There should be a large heat sink or something metal with cooling fins on it where the IC's might be mounted away from you so you will need to look at the other side of the heat sink. Replace those IC's and you will be able or should be able to adjust the set providing you have not tweaked it too much before repairing the problem. Good luck

OK Great! I happen to have a copy of that service manual if you would like a copy. I will need an e-mail address where to send it to.

So, do you still need the service manual for this set? The boards ARE NOT multilevel by the way. They are only 1 type of board for thgis TV set.

Your Welcome. I can still send you the factory service manual if you like.

Adjust the cross hairs on your TV. See menu setting for convergence. If this will not cure the problem..you have a bad convergence board!

JVC AV56-WP74 Convergence problem

Hello saduchan,

I think that your ICs are ok, What you need to perform is what is called dynamic convergence, This involves using the internal convergence controls to align the outer edges of the screen. I am assuming that the center of the screen is ok? it's just the edges which are misaligned, right? Now for the bad news, this task is not easy in fact the job takes a pro about 6 to 12 hours to do it right. I think you should have a qualified TV technician attempt the static convergence setup followed by the dynamic convergence setup.

I hope this helps,

Thank you,

Convergence problem?

If it's OK when first turned on, I would suspect either bad solder connections on the convergence or power supply board, or capicators on either board heating up and breaking down. Pioneer parts are expensive, so I would look for a shop that can do component level repair. You may save about $100 or so.

Convergence IC's

It does not sound like a convergence problem as you stated that all the lines match up and are ok??? You have space at the top and the bottom, as well as on both sides? Well my friend it sounds like you have a power regulator problem with the main power supply, because it sounds like the voltage is low and causeing the set to have a smaller then normal picture. Check the Main B+ first. I dont have a schematic but if you need, I know lots pof authorized pioneer peeps, and can getbwhat voltage and what part is most likly bad. We hardly repaired the boards as they(pioneer ) did not have most of the descrete parts and mostly had the boards themselfs to replace. You could also take out the B+ regulator board and have it rebuilt at PTS. They have a web addy of http://www.ptscorp.com Look them up and get their tele # and call them to see about the replacement cost. If they can't help go here Main support number800-421-1606. Good Luck
