Motorola V3 - Loose top flip

Is there an easy way to "tighten" the hinge? When my phone is open it is very loose and the top part flops around.

Flip top is real loose

This became a common problem for most (all?) of the RAZR phones. A T6 bit can get you into the shell to determine if the hinge can be easily repaired. Chances are it cannot, unless you have another one sitting around to use for parts (ebay perhaps?). If you don't replace the phone, or repair the hinge soon, prepare for more issues in the future, most specifically a white/blanked out screen, as with the hinge issue, the cable that leads to your display half of the phone from the keypad half will come disconnected. Especially with a loose hinge. My recommendation if you are not inclined or prepared to do the repair yourself is just replace it.

My Motorola Razr V3 cell phone will not stay open when talking on it. How do you tighten it?

The hinge is built into the two pieces, and the chrome circles on each end are just plastic placeholders, they are for show. If it is getting loose, there isn't much you can do without repairing with a new housing.

"Bolt" replacement on Razor Phone

Be very carefull with the phone. The main cable runs through that left side.

Look on Ebay for a Left hinge pin for the V3. Also knows as the left knuckle.

Make sure you look for the V3. Not Razr.

If your speaker goes out, or you lose display before you get the Knuckle, you need to get a keypad flex also.

If not, get the Knuckle, and it just slides in. MAKE SURE before you pop it in that there are no pieces of the old one in there and that you don't pinch that cable.

I can fix it for you if you send it to our business, but if you're careful, you shouldn't have a problem.

You may need a new Flip assembly.
The version might depend on your model of V3 (RAZR)

Motorola KRZR black screen

This URL explains that the blank screen is caused by a loose cable, includes instructions, and includes another URL that shows how to take the phone apart and re-seat the cable: http://www.howardforums.com/archive/topic/963501-1.html

I just fixed mine. The cable goes from the back of the phone (below the battery and SIM card) around the hinge and connects again on the flip-up part, under the screen. Re-seating at the main unit didn't fix it for me (dang), so I had to take off the cover on the flip-up part. Pretty hairy, but doable. You'll need TORX #5 and #6 screwdrivers.

I also saw where local repair shops will fix it for $75 (ouch), but that may be for a screen replacement--which is probably not needed. Opening and closing the phone is what causes the (tiny, flat) cable to need re-seating.

Intermittent working phone

if the hinge is loose it's most likely broken. get new ones from ebay, this might have also cause your flex to tear, thats why your phone some times freezes. you might need another keypad flex as well.
