I need help. I just purchased a sony 7.1 receiver and have hooked my ps3 to it via HDMI and HDMI to TV. I get a great picture while playing both games and BD's but do not get any sound!
Its in the sound settings on your ps3, change to hdmi out put, this should sort it, if not you can use your scart lead for the sound, just use red and white lead straight into your sound system or sony reciever. but you will need to set it up in the sound settings in your ps3. hope this helps

Ur tv some how causes HDMI 1 and 2 port hubs link together so changes back and fourth 1 or 2 HDMI hubs will not a difference.Ur tv have 4 HDMI hub ports wright?Tries not to used HDMI hub ports as like HDMI ports like 1,2,3,4 to as in sequences.Tries used like 1 and 4,2 and 4,3 and 1 as skips sequences might work for ur tv.Tries to hook up the PS3 system as the old format hook up same hook as PS2 format like used the PS station old RCA AV cable hook up.Then that should not causes conflict at all because now tv have two difference kind of format hook up.
You will need the optical cable. My receiver only passes video through the hdmi. So I hooked up the HDMI cable to the tv, and the optical cable to the receiver. Once that is done you have to go to the audio settings for the PS3 and chose audio through the optical.
ps3 comes with an av jack set as well as hdmi. now you can use the hdmi to the TV and run audio out from the TV to the receiver and that should work but if you don't have audio out on the TV then you need to go get the av cable
Hi...the HT-R800 Home Theater system has the HT-R550 receiver which could only carry Video via HDMI. you would need to connect a separate audio cale(Optical Audio Cable) to be able to get audio out of the PS3 to the receiver. Once you have hooked up an Optical Audio Cable you would need to go in the PS3 setup and putin Bitstream and Optical in the Audio Setup menu.
Help with hooking PS3 to a Denon Receiver. It worked before, but I had to move everything to a different location and when I hooked it back up the PS3 has sound but no picture. I have it hooked directly to the receiver with and HDMI cable (the receiver is hooked up to our cable box which is directly hooked to the tv via HDMI cable).
If your TV has an HDMI input, hook up the PS3 w/an
HDMI cable to the TV. This will give you a high def picture (set up the
PS3 to output the max resolution your TV displays). That will take care
of the video side.
Next hook up an optical cable from the PS3 to the receiver. In the PS3
menu, you have to change the audio settings to output the sound via the
optical cable.
Finally to get sound out of the receiver to the speakers, you have to
setup the receiver source input. For example if you setup the PS3 to
play thru "VCR" input, then you have to make sure the VCR input is
setup to use either optical 1 or optical 2 for sound (whichever one you
have the optical cable plugged in from the PS3).
I found this solution on a different site... it worked for me. I needed to change the sound settings in my ps3 to optical... then i selected dolby 5.1.... that took care of my sound.
If you have two optical inputs and two equipment (PS3 and HDVD) then you shouldnt have a problem at all. Just make sure you change the mode of the receiver to TV/SAT when you want to use the HDDVD. Your problem may be the video out put.
If i was you i would do the following:
1. Get rid of all your optical cables as you won't need it.
2. If your receiver support HDMI then by default HDMI will send both video and digital sound.
3. Plug the HDMI of the PS3 to the HDMI input of the receiver, plug the HDMI of the HDDVD player into the HDMI 2 of the receiver and plug 1 HDMI cable from the receiver to the tv/monitor you have.
That is the best set up so when you play PS3 you select dvd/ld and when you watch hddvd you select tv/sat.
However having said all that the fact that you have dvd/ld suggests you actually don't have HDMI at all on the receiver(...i just checked the specs of the receiver). Which means you will need to have 2 hdmi inputs for your tv and you will need to have the 2 optical connections.
Here's one solution, if you have an audio output from your tv, you can go from the audio output on your tv to the audio input on your receiver that way anything that is playing on your tv for example, playstation 3, dvd player etc. Anything playing on your tv will have audio on your onkyo home theater system. The other thing I would try if you want to hook ps3 directly to receiver is go to your connection settings on your ps3 menu and change your connection method to digital optical cable.
