I'm not sure what was used to create the spreadsheets and how long ago they were created, I think it was was works, but I don't know if it might have been before works 7.0 I certainly have a different computer since they were created. When I open my spreadsheets, the picture goes and clicks, before the files open, if that is any help.

Hi, it is microsoft works 7.0 that I have and always have had works rather than ms office excel. When I go into page set up, it will not allow me to do change anything, margins, orientation or anything.

I am not clear on the problem.

Are you attempting to use Microsoft Works 7.0 to edit spreadsheets that were created using Microsoft Office Excel 2003? Or are you attempting to use Microsoft Office Excel 2003 to modify spreadsheets created using Microsoft Works 7.0?

From the Microsoft Office 2003 Web site:

Excel 2000 or later versions cannot directly open files created in Microsoft Works version 3.0 or later. To open a Works file in Excel, first open it in Works and use the Save As command to convert it to one of the file formats listed below. Then close the Works file and open the converted version in Excel.

  • Works for Windows 2.0/Works for DOS SS
  • Excel SS
  • Lotus 1-2-3
To open a Microsoft Works database file in Excel, first save the file in Microsoft Works as a dBASE file, and then open the dBASE file in Excel.

Based on the info from Microsoft you are going to need to install Microsoft Works so that you can open the files. After that you can save them out as a compatible version.

Here is the How-To on that.

Will you need any help with the above?

Are you using Office Excel 2003? That website is for the 2007 version. That button does not exist in the 2003 version. You will need to upgrade to Office 2010 if you want the button.

Tip

How to find no. of rows and columns in Worksheet.

Hello everybody, this would be my first tip on FixYa.com. Number of people might not be aware how many rows and columns are there in Microsoft Worksheet.
This is how you can find out.
1. Select A1 cell in the worksheet
2. Now press Ctrl + down arrow from your keyboard, that will take you to the bottom of the row. You can find the number on the left side.
3. Again select A1 cell in the worksheet and press Ctrl + left arrow from your keyboard, that will take you to the last column of the worksheet. Now to number, just type "=column() " , without quotations, that will give you the number of the column.
Microsoft Worksheet columns is number from A to Z, again from AA to AZ, again from BA to BZ and so on till it reached IV in Excell 2003 and earlier version.
Microsoft Excel 2003 and old version has 16,777,216 cells per worksheet (65,536 rows * 256 columns).
Excel 2007 has 17,179,869,184 cells per worksheet (1,048,576 rows * 16,384 columns).

Dear sir , i have downloaded mirosoft word viewer 2003 in my windows 7 and iam unable to print the screen shots in that and write in that. iam able to view the documents. why

Hi!
Microsoft Word Viewer is only a "Viewer" and is only able to view word documents.
Alternative actions such as editing is prohibited unless you buy the full version of Microsoft Word (comes in the Microsoft Office Suite).
You can find Microsoft Office here: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/
Good Luck! pdvdw

HOW DO I ADD TABS TO MY SPREADSHHET IN MS WORKS

I do not think that works contains tabs. Microsoft Excel which is part of the office suite has what is known as a workbook and each workbook has individual worksheets that contain tabs along the bottom of the workbook. You can add new tabs there by right clicking and selecting insert and then select worksheet. You can also rename the tab with the right click option as well. These instructions are for microsoft excel 2003.

Exel 2003

You can refer to cells that are on other worksheets by perpending the name of the worksheet followed by an exclamation point (!) to the cell reference. In the following example, the AVERAGE worksheet function calculates the average value for the range C1:C10 on the worksheet named Marketing in the same workbook.

default.aspx?assetid=za010939481033 Refers to the worksheet named Marketing default.aspx?assetid=za010939491033 Refers to the range of cells between C1 and C10, inclusively
  1. Click the cell in which you want to enter the formula.
  2. In the formula bar (formula bar: A bar at the top of the Excel window that you use to enter or edit values or formulas in cells or charts. Displays the constant value or formula stored in the active cell.) default.aspx?assetid=za060515351033, type = (equal sign).
  3. Click the tab for the worksheet to be referenced.
  4. Select the cell or range of cells to be referenced.
