Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-W80 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Power Button not working

My 3 month old Sony DSC-W80 wont turn off using the Power Button! If I remove and re-insert the battery this turns the camera off but I can't turn the camera back on with "power button. I can then only activate the camera using the "playback" button - this then enables all features but once again need to remove battery to turn off. Can anybody suggest a fix for this problem before I return it to the shop??

I have the exact same problem! I can power the W80 on, but not off. I have to remove the battery or wait for it to power off with the timer. I charged the battery all night and it fixed the problem temporarily. Now I can't even power on. Is this fixable? Should I just get a new camera? My warrenty is up. The camera is over a year old.

    Hi,

I have 1 yr old DSC W 80,I have not used it for almost 3 months. The battery was inside the camera only. When i recharged the battery and try to operate, it is not switching on at all.I tried with another same battery also.

Please let me what is the reason.

I have the same problem with my camera. My power button will turn the camera on everytime but to turn it off i have to remove the battery. I have also noticed that If I leave the battery inside the camera it will go dead even if it has a fresh charge on it. These problems started after I had only owned the camera for about a month and I babied it and never dropped it or anything. Unfortunately without a reciept sony wants like $120 to repair it, for that much I could just buy another one from eBay. I have no problems dissasembling the camera myself if there is a detailed description of how to fix this issue.

Dear doona

Dont worry this is a simple problem but very rare. Just take it to the service centre with the warranty and they will repair it for u. Just be calm and cassual, dont show ur self that u handle the camera roughly. I am sure this will definitely solve ur problem. Please rate me.

Thankyou

Try to reset the camera to original settings:
How to reset a Cyber-shot® digital still camera back to original factory settings. Solution

Problem with sony cyber shot dsc- w80

I jeremy- i was having the exact same problem today. I phoned Sony repair, who then had me take out the battery and hold down the power button for about 30 seconds..reinsert the battery and power up. Didn't fix it. I came home and read some posts on here. I ended up trying the gently twist the lens as it was zooming in and out..I twisted a little and pulled a little. About the third time, it worked. (I also held the power button down with the battery in, just to try..maybe that helped, too). Sony wants flat fee of $91 to fix..is that what they told you?

First are you using a genuine Sony battery if not then get one. if you are it is a faulty battery pack and requires replacement, if under warranty take it back to the place of purchase
