Internal DVD Drive

I decided to buy this product because I just wanted a really good DVD player, not a burner etc., and this seemed to be the one, but now I don't know if I can install it in my Dell Dimension 4550, because it (the ASUS item) is SATA, and the instructions have no diagrams, and talk about things I don't know about, for example, there is just one slot on the back of the drive, for the ide/sata connector I guess, (and I don't know if this connector is SATA? - and then they say, "Connect one end of the 4-pin audio cable to the audio output connector of the optical drive." - but there is no place for that... - I went to the ASUS site, but I can't find anything there. Please help. Thanks, cheers, L

Hi,
if you,ve purchased a SATA drive.
Then you should have SATA Connectors On The Motherboard.
If you look carefully you should see SATA1 And SATA2 if applicable. they,ll look like a small black/white piece of plastic connector. shaped similar to a letter *L* this is the sata connector, you may already have a hard-drive on 1 of them. ( red Cable ) The 4 pin audio cable, goes from the rear of your DVD Drive, you should have 2. 1 for analogue 1 for digital. this connects Audio from your Drive to motherboard, slim grey cable ( usually ) look towards the rear of your motherboard for this, usually towards the audio out ( if you have onboard soundcard )
connect this to Audio/sound ( you,ll probably have 3 located close together.
Hope this helps.

I want to add a DVD player/burner to my Gateway 3250S (Gateway Pentium 4 2.66 GHz). Can anyone please help me know where to find one that should just slip into the CD-CDRW slot?..Thank you

Being realistic you are going to pay through the nose for a compact drive for a PC that is coming to the end of it's useful life (sorry but it's true). A better investment would be to purchase an external USB drive from dabs or ebuyer at least then you can keep the drive when you change PC and even use it between different pc's

Asus DRW-241st stopped recognizing any DVD's though it still reads CD's. Other then that it seems to be running just fine.

Good day sir, Try to clean it with a CD lens cleaner if problem persist.I recommend replacing your optical disk drive or use it as a slave for reading CD's so that your new ODD will last long. in my opinion most DVDRAM, player etc. can read most formats except Bluray disc. using the device from reading CD,VCD and DVD lessen's the device life span.
sometimes if we rarely use the ODD its already not working.

I need to buy an internal CD burner for my Dell Dimension 3100. The original won't burn a CD properly. Which replacement (internal) should I buy?

This is a matter of opinion but a really good brand and cost effective will be a LiteOn brand one.

For your model, you support Sata. The drive may already be sata or it may be ide. here are links to both types.

you may also want to look at LG models as well. they are very good and usually what many companies use for their oems

Is there a software update for lightscribe for lacie d2 blue ray burner, so that I can burn dvd titles on a disc?

When you say "burn dvd titles on a disc", do you mean to write (laser-etch) the name of the movie on the plastic disk? I am assuming that is what you mean. If not, please describe what you mean. . No, LaCie does not make a Blu-Ray LightScribe drive. This is a technology/hardware problem, not a software problem. . There are a small number of internal (I know you want external) Blu-Ray burners with Lightscribe hardware built in. Here is one: LG LightScribe GGW-H20L Blu-Ray DVD Sata Drive. . The Lightscribe website says no such media exists, even though the drives have been available since June of last year: http://lightscribe.com/products/index.aspx?id=106 Watch that site for info about the media. Once the media is available, you will be able to buy the external drive you want. . Here is a burner for only $4,400 (that is not a typo):http://www.meritline.com/sharkblu-lightscribe-8x-blu-ray-dvd-duplicator-1-11---p-35937.aspx . OK, it is a duplicator (burns up to 11 copies at once), hence the high price, but useless without the media. . BTW - It is a simple matter to buy an external USB2 or FW case and put an internal burner in that case to make an external drive. . --Dave

I need to fix a problem with my Sony DVD RW DRU- 180A. I get error code 39. The computer doesn't seem to recognize the DVD player.

More than likey a fault in the DVD player.

Did it work recently?? If so then probably faulty.

Check internal cable and even try another one, I have had the occasional cable fail.

I guess you have a Read-Only drive - ROM. You need a CD/DVD RW drive for burning.

Reads CD ut no not DVD's

There is no quick solution for this problem unless you consider buying a new internal drive quick solution. (They are pretty cheap now a days) It really sounds like your DVD lens is no longer working, which would cause no problems with reading of your CD's. Sorry for the bad news, but look on the bright side! You can upgrade to a lightscribe DVD burner!! :D:D (no more sharpies on the DVD/CD's you burn)
