I have a Sansa e280 and it worked just fine with xp. I now have vista on a new machine and when I plug in the e280, vista "looks for drivers", then fails. In short, it won't recognize it in the mtp mode. It will allow me to look at only video/voice in the msc mode, but I can't see the folders with all my music. What's going on? Any ideas? Thanks
I have a e250 and it works great with my laptop which is running window vista. One thing i do remember missing with is the usb setting on the mp3 player. Maybe you can try switching between the usb opinions to see if that will fix your problem. the usb setting screen is under "setting", "usb mode".
If you can't see the music in your music folder make sure that you have your "show hidden files and folders" tickbox ticked in folder settings. I know on my Sansa e280 the music folder is hidden and if you don't set your folder options to view hidden files/folders then they wont show up.
I had the exact same problem, my solution? I opened it in MSC mode and I made a new folder named "Music 2" and copied my files over, worked perfectly. However, It would not stop saying "Writing" on the player when it was done copying the files over. I just unplugged it and it was fine.

i would suggest reinstalling the device or removing the device and letting the computer restart to see if that works if that dont work then use the CD that came with the device finally if that dont work contact Customer Support and see if that helps =)
Unfortunately, so simple - although this simple solution does not appear in any manual. the solution: put your Sansa in the rear USB - and the PC immediately recognizes the MP3 or MP4. The USB soccket in the front of the PC does not have enogh power, and when using the rear USB port - it works!
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/DriverDownloads.aspx

Its pretty simple. You can use to install drivers and application CD comes with the Sansa E280. If you dont have the CD you can go to Sandisk's official suport website and choose the model and the operating system then download the driver (Base model E200). Install the driver and test. Here is the link that you can download driver http://www.sandisk.com/driverdownload/index.asp
I had the same prob with my e280 yesterday and i bought it 4 days ago. I'm using a vista o.s. and i found a way to transfer files this morning. if you are using a vista os you should first set your sansa to MTP mode so that your windows media player can detect your e280 then you can start synching. If you are using XP o.s. there shouldn't be any prob with that but you have to switch to MSC mode. you can find these settings on the setting menu of your e280 then USB mode.you can also open the E280 player if you see it on "my computer" there you can transfer the files.don't use your wmp player when you are doing this on vista cuz the wmp player will also synch at the same time and it will synch the same file.
Try downloading the MEDIA MONKEY. Its better than windows media player and itune. It automatically detects any mp3 players and you can synch your e280 without any problem. Whether you are using vista or xp the media monkey is way better than windows media player.
