At work we have many Panasonic Toughbook CF-18's. Celeron processor, pretty up to date model, just purchased 3 years ago. This is the second one that has had this problem. You come to work, put it on the docking station, slide the turn on button and green light comes on, wireless comes on but no other life is detected. Screen is black, HD does not spin. You take it off docking station and try battery power get same thing. Try AC power and no change. Gonna try swaping the HD with another CF-18's but I'm not optomistic. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Looks like this is a Toughbook shell problem. The hard drive worked in another CF-18. I beleive this is an internal power problem. I hope it's under warranty : }

Sounds like a capacitor issue with the boards secondary supply side to me, recommend you dis assymble and check capacitors with low esr meter to determine which way to start trouble shooting power delivery issue. Obviously your getting power to the plug but have you LOAD tested the power supply? Try another one to see?

    Cf-29 no operating system

You will require the internal Panasonic Toughbook CF29 optical drive (DVD). The cost of such a drive (used) in should be $50 or less.

You will also require a Windows 7 DVD.

You may be able to download an ISO file and burn your own.

    Try this Microsoft Website:

You must use the 32-bit version, NOT the 64-bit version.

Please remember to set the DVD as the first boot device in the BIOS of the CF29.

That is it. Good Luck and Best Regards from:

Where is the serial number on a cf19

The serial number on ALL Panasonic Toughbooks
built since 2004 are located in one of two spots:

    1) On a small white sticker or label on the underside
of the Toughbook. The serial number starts with a
    number followed by a letter.

    2) When you press the "F2" Function key immediately
upon startup you will enter the BIOS. On the first page
of the BIOS you will find the Serial Number. Again it
starts with a number then a letter.

    That's It!

    Bios password

On most Panasonic Toughbook models, when you turn on the power and immediately press the "Esc" key, then a new startup menu will be shown.

Simply choose "CD-ROM Drive" as the boot device and make sure that you have previously inserted a CD-ROM in the drive and then the Panasonic Toughbook should startup or "boot" from the cdrom
instead of from the internal hard disk drive.
