Why won't my laptop wont play DVDs anymore

Please double check your drive. GOTO My computer and there you will see disk partitions and optical drive type.. I mean your DVD drive does it says DVD or CDROM? Now if thats DVD then you need to check software you are using.. Its better if you can download VLC

Try installing a new software program to play your DVDs. Also look for updated dvd player drivers from Acer site.

If cleaning did not fix it the optical pickup for that unit is damaged in some way---if the set has audio/video INPUT jacks on it just buy a DVD player and hook it to the set.

If no jacks you are finished--DVD portion of the unit if available costs more than the entire set.

You probably will need to replace the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) in your laptop. Go to Google and search for "Dell Inspirion 6000 CD/DVD drive" to find a replacement.
To be sure it's the CD/DVD drive that's defective and not your operating system software, you could also try to boot from a boot-able DVD disk.

Drivers tell computer's brain how to connect to each of its organs(parts like monitor keyboard DVD drive etc) if this is missing its like ur brain doesnt know how to move ur right hand...u ll need to reinstall the drivers then... u ll get the drivers from the website for the laptop Hardware 2. next try using a lens cleaner for ur drive it usually is an air can and a disc... try that ... 3. If still the problem hasnt been solved... the trouble maybe with the drive physically which means u d have to replace the DVDdrive...

if there is still the installation file left in your comp. for the DVD ram thn uninstall and thn install it again.,..... it will be fine

Find out what model drive you have and see if there is a firmware update for the drive.. Sometimes they loose there brain and need to be reprogrammed. If that dosent fix your problem, then the laser is on its way out.. Use a different laser to read dvds vs CDs.

Laser got weak. buy a new one
