Whenever I connect my Zen player to a computer, it is not recognized. I have tried multiple USB cords, and this is not the issue. I have also uninstalled the software and reinstalled it with no success.

I've had this happen before. My issue was a hardware interface. Did your computer shut down or give any sign of error?

Try checking the "device manager" and see if anything is up. You may want to go into your bios and make sure your "plug and play" options are still turned on. I'd try reinstalling the driver if you keep having problems.

If your Zen is getting hot, this indicates that either the battery or a chip on the motherboard has a short circuit. Do NOT charge your Zen when it is getting hot, take it off the charger and USB and try to power it off. If it won't power off, then just let it run down the battery and don't use it again until you have sent it in for repair or fixed it yourself.

While my Zen is usually recognized by my PC, every few weeks it will not be picked up. This usually lasts from a few hours up to a couple of days, but it always ends up working again without doing anything. At one point, instead of using the creative media explorer, I realized you can also add songs through Windows media player as well, which almost always recognized that my zen is plugged in.

Make sure you have media player 11
If you can, the best test is to try your player with another PC, to see if you still have the problem. This localises whether the problem is with the PC (most likely the USB) or the player. See the link below (search on "connection problems") for a lot more troubleshooting on this.
Download recovery tool off creative's website.
go to my computer > click on hardware tab >
click on device manager button > in the is next screen on the bottom should have>>universal serial bus controllers
(write these down just in case it cant find them)
right click on them and uninstall
reboot let windows reinstall them

Also told Microsoft hotfix causes this problem try uninstalling the last hotfix
If that doesn't fix it try the USB cable

Firmware problem

See the solution for PC not recognizing your player. You should downgrade to WMP10 by uninstalling WMP11 and WMP11 runtime. Uninstall portable device drivers from System menu and restart the computer. Replug the USB and the player should now be recognized.

Vision M not recognized

I'm having the exact same problem. My zen is 'charging' but isn't detected anywhere on my pc and I'd leave it charging for days but nothing happens. I've tried different usb ports, reinstalling the software several times but nothing. I recently reinstalled Windows and with my new pc my Zen cannot work on it for some reason?! I put previous files from my old pc onto my Zen hoping that I could transfer them onto my new Windows pc but I fear I've lost the data on my Zen completely. Arggh, any suggestions guys? Please..x

If your Zen V is dead, wont respond to anything, try this, plug it in to the computer, hold the power switch in the on position, THEN trigger the reset button, worked like a charm for mine, I had thought it a lost cause."
