Onkyo are known for having 2 seperate connections for the rear speakers. 1 set for a surround sound, channel "A", and 1 set for seperate set a speakers, channel "B". check for the second set of connections. Also, your only gonna get sound out of the rear speakers thru surround sound mode when the unit actually sends singal. The sound is determined buy what setting you have the receiver set to.
eBay you might type in major brand on eBay you can get a 5.25 Polk woofer for super cheap may not be logitech but iv done it and to me it sounded good. about to buy a logitech x 530 speaker set for my z 640 surround its compatible if you want the sub woofer than email me if not you can eBay your system and get a busted one to pull pars from.
Hi bud , What your laptop has is a 2.1 Channel Sound card , and your speakers are a 5.1 Channel Surround Sound system ...So in order to get the Real pure surround sound , Sound out of the speakers you will need to buy a 5.1 Channel Sound card... Hope you come right bud happy new year :)

if not there is no real way to make it surround sound . however you can double up the speakers with the front ones.
but you loose sound quality and it wont be true surround sound. but you can give it a try
I had the same problem and fixed it by manually setting the surround speakers changing the Level Cal to +12dB. You will immediately notice a significant increase in volume and may need to back down on the dB's. What a diffence it makes!
i would 1st confirm that the rattling is not comming from the speakers. hook different speakers up to test. if continue to garble, the boardmay have a short. ebay the description audio board for dell ???? you may find it.
