    Three questions:

    1. What was the previous OS?
    2. Is the software disk for the earlier version, or the current OS?
    3. What model Lexmark are you trying to install?

Thanks for the additional information. This will help in troubleshooting this.

That is most likely why it isn't working. It is possible the driver disk you have simply doesn't have the 10.3.5 driver on it.

You can download the OS X drivers here:

http://downloads.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/downloads.cgi?lxkprod=Lexmark+X1140

Just choose "OS X" from the operating system options.

If further assistance is needed, please ask.

Take a deep breath, that's what we're here for!

To put it simply, a driver is what "tells" the computer what to do with an added piece of hardware.

Be sure to unplug the printer before installing the driver.

You should be able to download that file, and simply double click on it to install. It has been a while since I used a MAC, so perhaps a MAC guy can jump in on this one.

How to replace solid state hard drive on imac computer

Hi Felix

Pretty simple really.... once you get the iMac opened!
See below

Simply find the existing hard drive, disconnect and slip it out.
You might have to remove a couple of screw in locating studs from the old drive and add to the new drive.
The connectors should match up with the existing cable.
Called SATA (Serial ATA)
The temperature sensor is stuck to the outside of the drive, carefully peel it off and stick it on the new drive.

Use Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC) to make a clone copy of your existing drive or install a new OS X (Downloadt off Apple Site)
Good Luck

I'll assume you know that Maverics, Yosemite OS X are free to download. And the latest El Capitan is due in Days.

Adobe has stopped opening documents on my Imac G5. Solution please?

Hi David.Forget adobe and use Preview - it's installed in your imac.Single click a document. then go to File - Get Info in the menu bar.Near the bottom of the window that opens you will see this5_9_2012_9_29_04_pm.pngChange the bit where it says Open With, to Previes and then click the button underneath that says Change All.
This will change all Adobe PDF files and other PDF files so that they open with preview - that's how it works on all the macs here, no Adobe Reader at all.

Does Dell have a printer driver for iMac?

Hi Lorie, unfortunately Apple is correct. It's up to Dell to provide the drivers and I think it's highly unlikely that they will.It would appear that many Dell printers are actiually Lexmark printers in disguise so perhaps you could try those drivers to see if any will work.

I have a new iMac all in one dual core 3.06GHz 4GB RAM..500GB HD memory....and when I shut down it will not close but keeps saying to force quit my Lexmark printer so it can shut down all the way? Why...

Your printers' app is keeping your Imac from shutting down. You have to quit the printers' app first then shutdown. Some outside vendors' apps (as Lexmark - has a function that prevents you from shutting down computer in case you have stuff printing) You can change that in your Lexmark preferences. And no it won't hurt the IMac, it's just a hassle until you change the printers' preferences.

Thanks for the help!

Hi there,

That sounds like it would fix it. Have you recently updated the memory in the imac? It may be incompatable. Otherwise it may simply have become faulty over time.

Please make sure that before you open up your imac, you're not voiding your warrenty. I know that the aluminium imacs allow this, but i dont think the G4 versions do.

Hope this helps,

Nathan.

Printer will not add to my computer

Ok, since you state that you have an older iMac, I'm going to presume that it is not an Intel-Mac and that your OS X version is Linux based. So with that information known, you will just have to search for the printer (Lexmark 3400) drivers for the version of OS X you are currently running. Since the older Mac's use CUPS instead of drivers that PC's use. Basically instead of searching in Google for a Lexmark 3400 print drivers for an iMac, you would need to instead search Google for CUPS Lexmark 3400 OS X. Then you would get a link like this:

http://fixunix.com/ubuntu/505065-lexmark-printer-ubuntu.html

And if you follow that link you would get to download the needed file(s). And usually the installation instruction is there on the same site. It is a bit confusing to figure it all out but if you get lost there come back and post it here and someone will help. And if i happen to come across you i will be glad to help with the confusing manual installation of the CUPS into your iMac.

''Twain is Missing'' keeps coming up - can't scan from printer

Download appzapper , you get 5 free goes with it. Drag your old HP software onto it and it will find all the hidden files. Zap it. Hopefully this will have delete all HP related files.

Download the latest files from HP for your Mac. If you do this first AppZapper will delete this as well, so you'll only have to download it again.

So basically, you're deleting all the old files for HP Deskjet 5510 printer and installing all new ones.

Printer

Which OS do you have 10.4 or 10.5?

To add printers in 10.5 go to your system preferences and you will see a Printer & Fax icon. This is where you add printers.

In 10.4 go to your applications folder and then into your Utilities folder. There is Printer Utility application where you can add printers from there.
