To reset the password, shut down the system, restart in bios, press and hold F2 until it loads in the long rectangle box.
The Setup utility will open.
Arrow down to Locked Setup.
Press enter key and popup box will appear.
Type in the box the password you received from Dell
Now you will see: Set Admin Password.
Press enter key, new box will open where you enter your new password.
Press enter, verify password, press enter.
Setup Notice box will appear exclaiming changes have been saved after you save and exit.
Press enter and it will ask Exit Saving Changes.
Please select YES
Computer will restart.
Let me know if the password prompt appears before the windows logo appears or after that. This is to know if it is a hard drive password or a BIOS password or a Login password. You can remove or change the Window's User or administrator's password. You need access to a computer with Internet access to download the Hiren's Boot CD and burn it onto a CD. Then insert this CD into the laptop/computer and boot up the laptop/computer with the Hiren's CD and follow the instructions. There are very useful utilities CD and it a Linux boot CD which contains quite a lot of Utility programs including a password removal program. Are you getting this error message on startup/login? Does it prevent you from logging in? If so then try starting in Safe mode. See http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Start-your-computer-in-safe-mode for instruction on doing this in Windows 7. What version of WIndows are you running?
