RCA MP3M4018 stopped working and says code 10/ boot error needs reformated, I have tried I downloaded software but now the computer doesn't recognize it to do anything with it. It was working fine until it just said not enough memory and it didn't have all full. I erased the folders and then it no longer worked. Please help me if you can this was my 11yr olds christmas present?

we were unable to download any songs I had trird different couters and different programs then i got the brilliant idea to reset it but when it come back on it says "boot error please format unit" idon't know what that means or how to forat it can you help me? it does not respnd to any button.
You may be missing a critical windows update, or the firmware needs upgrading (or both).
Go to: update.microsoft.com for the updates (specifically, you need to convert this device to an MTP device, rather than an MSD device; msd is the old standard; MTP is the new).

Will tell you how to work around the easy rip. You will need two free programs 1st program Any Video converter http://www.any-video-converter.com/products/for_video_free/ It will convert the files to any output u like. I like Mpeg 2 2nd program SMV Converter. http://www.soft29.com/freeware/smv_converter.htm Have this convert the file to a smv file. After its converted just drag and drop into the video section of your mp3 player.
when it says download updated version, ignore. Better yet don't use RCA software at all. Use your windows media player(version 10 or better). Click on file wanted to start media player. Then click on "now playing" and display item or all chapters if audio book is being played. Plug in RCA and drag item(s) to working area of Media Player. Hit sync. and finito!

This only applies to Windows-based computers. You can also format the player in Windows Media Player itself: Connect your Mp3 player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab.
