Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I recently purchased a Dell XPS 420 Desktop computer, running Vista, from Dell, including a WD 500GB MyBook external hard drive. The power button did not function from the get-go, but I was able to copy much of my data from my old computer onto the WD disk. Today, when I connected the external drive, the computer "beeped," recognizing the hardware, but it doesn't appear listed on the "Computer" screen. I pulled out the disk's Quick Install Guide, and noted that it does not list Windows Vista among its list of System Requirement. Is there a Vista driver for the disk or can it only be used on my old Windows XT machine?

Unfortunately if there is no driver for Vista, then your out of luck. Since Vista is a widely used OS and getting bigger, then the MyBook manufactures must create a Vista driver soon or they will be in danger of going out of business. Just wait and periodically check the MyBook website for new drivers.

How do i use SATA to recover my data from my WD 500 gb mybook? you see my power source is working at all.

You dismantle the case and extract the hard disk. Then you take that disk and you put it in a desktop pc (you will need a SATA dat cable, a SATA power cable and 4 small screws tu secure the disk inside. Once it's installed just start the pc and open My Computer - the disk will be there, copy from it whatever you want.

I got anew computer with windows 7 and I would like to use my wd mybook 500gb how do i get this to work my book is compatillite with windows vista/xp/2000

External Hard drives are not designed to an operating system version, they will work with any windows system. The only difference is between MAC and windows.

Remember windows 7 is designed for people who don't know anything about computers, so they can just use it without knowing anything.

So windows 7 will work with anything more then vista will.

Don't worry it will work fine with win 7.

WD Hard Drive Not Detecting

Yes, this can be done via the user web interface, by typing in mybookworld or wdstorage into the web browser and the shared storage manager should come up. If you go to general setup there should be an option to update network settings.

My Book, Need upgrade to make it compatible with Mac Leopard OS X. Article #1716.

1) Go to support.wdc.com 2) Click Downloads 3) Select MyBook, then your MyBook model (I selected MyBook Home, as it was appropriate to my hardware) 4) Download and install the WD Drive Manager (Mac)
Note that this software only updates the utilities that control the power button, drive lights, and capacity gauge. If the drive is otherwise not functioning properly, you'll probably need to seek alternate support: the hardware itself functions just fine for me as an external drive without installing any additional software or drivers.
