Question about Toshiba Satellite P105-S6207 Laptop
Hello! I've been using my Compaq Presario (M2223AP) Laptop for 2 years now, then all of a sudden I saw 2 vertical lines on the screen. 1 line is a clear red line (but not so thick & dark) located about 1/3 from the left of the screen while the other is a very faint (thin, almost transparent) line located about 1/5 from the right of the screen. I think it might be a monitor problem. I'm not very good in fixing computers so I have not done anything about it yet. I'd appreciate your help very much. Thanks! I have a Toshiba Satellite and the whole right side of my screen is all vertical, colorful lines. Can this be fixed? Thanks. We have 2 vertical lines on our Toshiba Satellite P105 that is a little over a year old
There could be three different possibilities why you would get a line on your lcd display.
First, it could be a missing signal from the controller IC to LCD driver IC
Second it could be a defective LCD driver IC itself
Third it could be a dry contact in the tape carrier package ( TCP).
Attach an external monitor to your laptop and make it your primary display unit to see if you are still getting the lines if not its you TCP if you still get lines it will need to have either the LCD IC or the controller IC checked and possibly replaced.

I have the same problem too.
Its like my laptop has had a stroke. Not only do I have the coloured lines issue but I also have a stripe that is about 5inches wide (Everything in it is darker on half the screen).
I thought i'd put this comment here just in case anyone got in touch with Toshiba. copy and paste this entire thread to show them that THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM.
Not that they would care any way- Toshiba don't build things to last any more. My sister has had two Toshibas break just after the warrantys have expired. I have two friends with the same Equium A60 laptop as me and all overheat and turn off.
Come on Toshiba, sort it out. Every customer you get, is a customer that will not be returning and probably put off for life. I know I will never be buying from you again.
Is that the kind of service that you want to be giving?
"At Toshiba quality and reliability is at the heart of everything we do. With technologies being developed in more than 30 separate R&D laboratories and over 300 subsidiary companies around the world Toshiba engineers are dedicated to finding the best product solutions for you, the customer."
Why don't your products last then???????
Instead of rushing to get your products out and spending a fortune on advertising, spend more time and money on PRODUCT TESTING . You'll see that word of mouth, satisfied and possibly even (dare I say it) happy customers will get you a lot more sales and respect than any advertising campaign can do.
Hope to see some improvements soon and I pity anyone that is struggling with their Toshiba.

I have a Toshiba Satellite with so many multicolored lines I can hardly use it, and more appear almost daily. I have heard that the problem is the over heated video card. Normally not a severe problem,.. the video card in Toshiba's are integrated with the motherboard, and to correct the problem, the mother board must be replaced. For my lap top thats about $700 bucks(aprox 1/2 the replacement cost). If I chose to replace the mother board... it would quite possibly fail again. If any one has info to the contrary, please advise,..other wise I'm done with Toshiba's!!!
Thanks , bp email@example.com

I have the same vertical lines. I'm backing up as soon as I leave this link. Suing would be a class action situation. I'll check with a class action firm and post in the near future. Good luck everyone!

I know not everyone has this ability, but if you can, go to a friend's
house and hook up an external monitor to your laptop. You may need to
use the function keys to switch from LCD to external, but if the lines
go away on the external, you have a bad LCD. If the line shows up
still on the external, then your problem is either:
a) video driver (free, easy fix)
b) bad inverter (video 'outputter') ...approximately $10-50/varies + labor costs to replace
c) bad video card/motherboard ...usually between $200-$400 + labor to replace
Hope this helps - please be sure to rate my answer :)

Sorry, but I find these sites difficult to figure out - I'm not a chat room person. I just wanted to thank dg9dotorg for the comments and whenever I finally find out the cause and get it repaired next year, I will advise what caused it. edierosa

Try connecting an external monitor to the Dell Inspiron 9300 and see if the vertical line is also present on the monitor. If the monitor display is fine, then your laptop’s LCD display panel is defective. If the monitor also displays the vertical line, then your problem is with either the video card or motherboard located inside your laptop.
Not sure if the Compaq Presario has an external monitor plug, but if it does the above procedure can be applied to that one as well.
