Power brush problem

The power head goes on and off when sweeping, like a short or something. I have replaced the belt and that did not help.

If this machine has a telescopic wand, the problem is likely in there. Try collapsing the wand about half way and see if that solves the problem. If it does, the wand will have to be disassembled and repaired. There are two "finger" contacts that allow for the transfer of electricity as the wand is adjusted and they can get weak in certain areas, especially where they are adjusted to the most.
If the problem persists, it may be in the cord or the connection between the wand and the hose or powerhead. Check the two pins at both connections to see if there is any evidence of arcing or burning. This would indicate an intermittant connection.
If the wand is the problem, they can be repaired, to an extent, but it takes someone who knows how to take it apart. Most shops don't know they can be dismantled.

One more thing. This machine has a 360 degree hose connection at the machine. Sometimes the electrical connection there gets worn and lazy. Try wiggling and rotating the hose there while the machine is on and see if the powerhead cuts out while you do this. That connection is also servicable.

Check the contacts where the power head attaches to the wands and also where the wnd attaches to the hose. If any of the contacts look burnt, then they will need to be replaced. Unhooking them when power is on is what causes most of these problems. But if they look ok, could be a problem inside the power head, or in the circuit board that is inside the cannister.

Hoover cyclean brush stopped revolving

The belt may be broken or worn If your cleaner is not picking up fluff and hair from the carpet or has become heavy to push it is possible that the belt has snapped. This belt makes the sweeping brushes spin round underneath the cleaner and brush dirt into the path of the air suction. The brushes also give that 'groomed' look to your carpet by gently brushing the carpet fibre. If you pick up something sharp or debris gets jammed in the brushes then the belt may snap. Also over time your belt will stretch, so it's a good idea to change your belt once per year to ensure the cleaner picks up dirt effectively.

Bristles quit rotating and smelled like something was burning. It isn't the belt that turns the bristles. Can't afford a repairman, can you help me fix it?

Belt can reamin intact but still jam and burn. It won't necessarily break. I suggest you remove the bottom of the vacuum where the bristles spins and where the belt is located. You may have something jammed in there. You may need to remove the bristle to get the belt out. Inspect the belt and replace after clearing the obstruiction.

I need to change my sweeper belt on my Dyson 14 Animal

When turned on and set to sweep the sweeper makes a loud noise like it has something stuck in it but the brush is turning abut not does not have a lot of sucking power. It started the other day when a blanket with tassels got caught and wund up in the brush and sucked up in the sweeper a bit. Tried to pull out while running and came out but made the loud noise. If I take off the brush then it does not make the noise when on. I think it might be the belt grooves are worn and slipping when the sweeper is in the sweeping on mode. Sorry, do not know the technical sweeper terms.

Caught rug, motor overheated, the brush wont turn at all, but suction is still there ...is there something I can do to reset it?

Assume that the belt is broken to the power brush /head. Did you happen to smell burning rubber at all when the motor got stuck? The motor may have a reset on it, if it was not operating, but that is not the case, as mentioned. Look in your manual for replacing power head/brushes belt! WalMart sells most types or your local vacuum repair facility.. check the Yellow pages and let your fingers do the walking.. Good luck

Brush not moving, suction working

This machine is made for Sears by Panasonic. The power head, depending on model has a "gear" / cog belt or a standard flat rubber belt. First turn the power head over and see if the brush roller turns easily, if so you do need a new belt. To access the belt you will have to remove the hood from the power head. There are 4 screws, one at each of the corners to take out. Once the hood is off you will see where the belt goes and find "teeth" in the motor shaft for the motor / brush roller if you need a gear belt. If both of these are flat you need a rubber belt.
You can go to sears.com and find the belt you need with the vacuums model number.

Why does the power head come on and off when it wants to

The belt that drives the brush is stretched out and will not turn the beater brush properly. You need to put a new belt on it.

The brushes will not turn when on and cannot move them even manually

Drive belt has most likely broke and jammed inside the power head. Remove the bottom plate on the power head and replace the drive belt.

Vac is supposed to have auto height adjustment but it doesn't

If the brush isn't working then its maybe because the drive belt is broken. Locate cross head screws on top of the hood of the Eureka vac (two at the front usually and one below the duster or at the left hand side if looking at the vacuum from the front) Once the screws are undone check to see the drive belt is intact. If its not then replace with a new one and check at the same time that the roller brush is properly put in. If the drive belt is ok then check the brush roll - something may have jammed it if it isnt the belt. Dont forget to rate please.

Miele White Star SEB 204, powerhead stopped spinning. brushes are clear of debris, belt (#3854940) is not broken. Could belt be stretched so that brush head does not spin?

Yes, most likely the belt has stretch. Flat belts do this after a short time and need to be replaced when problems start with the brush roll not wanting to turn. Also check the brush roll, make sure that the ends turn freely, if not, then replace it also.

Replacing Belt

On the front of the power head is a knob with the KIRBY name on it. Rotate this knob in a counter clockwise direction and it will "lift" the belt off the motor spindle. Release the head lever, only one direction it will turn and remove the head. Turn the head over on its back, turn the KIRBY knob to release the old belt. Remove the brush guard by turning the two release fixtures. Remove the guard. Pry the brush out of the head. Remove the old belt. While the brush is out remove any build up of hair and lint off the ends that's where the bearings are. put a few drops of 3 in One oil on the ends. Put the new belt over the brush and re-install the brush into the head. the brush will go in only one way. With your finger pull the belt into the housing and rotate the KIRBY knob until the pawl inside grabs the belt. Re-install the brush guard by engaging the two metal pieces into the front of the head and pull down backwards over the head and rotate the holding clips back horizontal. re-install the powerhead on the machine, lock it in place and rotate the KIRBY knob clockwise. You should be all set!
