Disconnect the lead from the flyback to the splitter. Place the flyback lead securely in a dry glass container and try to power up the set. If it doesnt shutdown the HV Block (splitter) is bad.

When testing the hv flyback by turning on the tv, if tv stays on the hv splitter block is bad ,but what if tv turns off what you check next? thanks for the help.

first, I think you have this backwards----if splitter disconnected (look for physical signs or arcing or it burnt) the High voltage would come up and sizzle where it connects to the splitter.

If the set with the splitter disconnected still shuts down it is not the issue---got a D52 of some kind?

RCA 60" rear projection TV is Broken

If no arc into a bottle with the HV wire removed and inserted the trouble is before that. Set is prone to some nasty problems---a number (about 12) similar large diodes fail all over the set---have to check the voltages to know as they will test ok even with a diode tester.

Make sure you removed the right wire---ALSO VERY COMMON is when any of the HV wires into the block are inserted they bend over and will work for a while but sooner or later cause issues---you would be able to see this if disconnect the block and remove each red wire---they slide down and plug in---find one or more folded over inside the tubes and you have found your problem.

The Block is now very cheap --seen them for 20 dollars.

Look to the wires first!

Rca D61W20 52 in power supply

If the deflection power board was changed with a known good one . then the HV splitter block would be suspect then followed by a bad CRT next. I would try removing one CRT drive board at a time by letting it hang free wires attached then trying to power up the set if it doesnt power up then try one of the other crt drive boards after reattaching the one you previously unhooked. If the set powers up if any certain CRT board is removed you will know the problem is that CRT. If it doesnt power up then its most likely the HV splitter. You can get replacement CRTs, boards and HV splitters that have warranties from

I have a rca p52939 that won't turn on.

Failure of the HV splitter was a very common problem when I was doing these big screens on the road. The set won't come on if the splitter shorts. We used to test if that was the cause by pulling the HV input lead out of the splitter (leaving it still inside the plastic cup so it wouldn't arc anywhere) and turning the set on. Most often the set would fire right up (without picture of course).

I believe the RCA part number for the splitter is 205064, and it's available from a number of sources. I'm not home right now so I can't check. If I have the number wrong I'll post a follow-up comment.

Tv repair

HV splitter and flyback are common failure items. Remove the HV lead from the HV splitter that comes from the flyback, Place that into a dry glass jar secured so it doesnt come out. Then try powering up the set if the set powers up without shutting down the splitter is bad.

Blurry picture and arched at bottom

We have a Proscan 50" Projection TV. A T.V. repairman told us it was the HV (Horizontal Vertical) Splitter causing this problem and tried to find the part for us. The part for our TV was too hard to find though and we ended up not having ours fixed. Our T.V. is 8 years old though, and Proscan is discontinued. Maybe you'll have better luck finding an H.V. Splitter for your TV. Of course, you'd need a professional to install it for you. Good luck.
