Question about Canon DR-9080C Path-Through Scanner

1 Answer

How to enable Long Document mode?

Canon's spec sheets claim that the DR-9080C can handle pages up to 39 inches long in what they call "Long Document" mode. There doesn't seem to be any way to turn this mode on, as far as I can tell. If I select the maximum page size option in CapturePerfect, the scanner still throws a jam error after the first 17" or so has been fed.

Is there an undocumented service mode that has to be enabled to support this feature? On some Canon scanners the mode can be turned on via the Windows "Scanners and Printers" control panel applet, but the DR-9080C doesn't appear in the control panel at all, presumably because it doesn't use TWAIN.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Thanks; I just went ahead and installed the TWAIN driver for the DR-9080C, and there's no sign of a Long Document mode setting anywhere in the driver's control-panel dialog. Also installed the latest Capture Perfect version, with no effect.

Thanks -- I'll give that a try next time I'm using the scanner. Pretty sure that none of the documentation that came with it included that little tidbit.

This worked, but every long document I scan yields an out-of-memory error in CapturePerfect, regardless of the scan settings (even black-and-white 75 dpi). Guess they really didn't want people scanning long documents, despite advertising to the contrary.

I am looking at Canon's site, and have looked through the manual. You're right, there isn't a setting for this besides the little tab you flip out of the tray.

I did, however, notice that there IS in fact a ISIS/TWAIN driver for this printer, as well a INF file, and a CapturePerfect update.

Let me know if you have installed these.

As per the manual...

Press "New File" and "Count Only" buttons at the same time till they flash. Then hit the "New File" button to cycle through options. U10 is the normal/long doc mode. Change from 0 to 1 by hitting the "Count Only" button. Then to save and get out of User Mode hit the "Stop" button. The manual recommends only having long enabled when needed, it will slow down processing when using auto-detect length setting.

You probably need to set the user settings to "long doc" mode.

1) When the machine is in the standby state,
press the NEW FILE key and Count Only key
simultaneously. During the user mode, the
LEDs of the NEW FILE key and Count Only
key illuminate and the address (U01-U10)
and data (the last digit) appear on the
counter display.
2) When changing the address, use the NEW
FILE key. Each time NEW FILE is pressed,
the address changes, cycling from U01 to
U10.
3) When changing the data, use the Count Only
key. Each time Count Only is pressed, the
data changes.
4) Pressing the Stop key exits the user mode.

Long document mode =U10; 0=normal and 1=long document mode.

I have a canon dr-9080 scanner that does not recogniize slip sheets. the rollers have been replaced and the scanner is clean.

There is a minimum size required for a page to be scanned. Please ensure that your sheets exceed that. (2.2: x 2.8")

We have a Canon DR-9080C scanner. When scanning in Duplex on pages with data on both sides, the back side of each page is coming out unreadably faint. The header and any overall large blocks of black on...

The Canon DR 9080C is a 'contact' scanner. There is no optical lens, instead it uses a technology called "Contact Image Sensor' or CIS. The page to be scanned must be close to the glass for a proper image. This is achieved by a full-length rubber roller just above/below the scanning module. The roller is spring loaded and in case it gets stuck, there wont be enough pressure on the document to keep it close to the glass. ensure these rollers are moving smoothly and if required clean them. The rollers are on the opposite of the Scanning module.

I get a Staple Detect error each time I try to scan a page. I've checked all of the rollers; they are fine. There are no staples anywhere in the picture. Can I turn Staple Detection off?

I presume you are using CpaturePerfect3 Scanning software. There is an option to stop checking of 'staples'.
In Canon 9080C staples are NOT detected by any metal detector! You'd notice a set of LEDs on one side and a set of sensors on the opposite side of the scanner wall, just above the paper tray. Incase there is a document thats stapled, while one sheet is going in, the other sheet will get lifted because of staple. Thus when there is obstruction in the LED sensor, it is presumed to be a stapled document. Conversely, even if a document is bent enough to block the sensors, the scanner assumes it as a stapled document. Ensure your documents are fairly flat.

I can't scan different document sizes (A3 and A4) in one batch with the Canon 9080C.

IF you are using CapturePerfect 3. version, you can select "Auto detection" for page size, and under 'more' select 'image size' instead of guide plate. Also you may have to select option '1' under user code U10 in case you want to scan pages over 17 inches long. (Press Newfile and Countonly simultaneously, press 'newfile' till you get U10, press 'countonly' and select 1. This will enable scanning upto 1 meter long).
CP3 has "Skip Blank page option", this helps you to automatically delete blank pages on the back side and scan only those with data.

CapturePerfect ver 3 is on chargeable basis! You can download ver 2.0 from http://software.canon-europe.com/software/0022439.asp?model= Though this is listed under Canon DR 5020, it works fine with DR 9080C. DR 9080C has very intelligent features and ver 2 works fine. I do not know if there are addl features with ver 3.0. I have used for scanning over 500,000 docs.

Canon DR-9080c scanner not lifting error no page found in feeder

There is a paper sensor just under the rolers in the lifting tray. Clean the area thoroughly with a damp cloth. Keep some sheets and try ]count only'. If it works then the sensor is okay, then you can try your scanning. If it is not sensing paper, check the sensor or connections to the sensor.

Not scanning full page Canon DR-3080II/CapturePerfect

U should select 'Scanners maximum'  and try this. I have found this does not work midway, after some scans. So close and exit out of captureperfect, re-enter and try. This should work.
