Every Psp has a Firmware thats what they call the internal OS and it has many ver. release the new one is 3.90 from sony but if you aware of the 3.80 m33-5 or 1.50 kernel thats is the homebrew ver. it can run game on the memory no need to use the UMD. try the system config look if the umd is auto run and if your version is 3.xx m33 turn of yur psp and hold the right button the turn on the psp, there should be recovery menu. just look in see if the UMD is auto play or read game on memory.
if not just post again if what really is the problem..

Check the firmware of your PSP. Some games may not work if the latest firmware is not installed.
You usually get this message if the UMD has errors reading or the UMD is not present or was ejected in the middle of playing a game. You should try testing your PSP with other disks, if it doesn't have the same problem with other disks then your UMD is most likely scratched or damaged.
If you are using a modded PSP then you will get this error if you load a game from the memory stick without having a disk inserted in the drive. Or if the game that you are trying to load requires a higher firmware version. You will need to install a higher modded firmware to fix the error if that is your case.

when a psp is starting to read a disk, it takes up 333 mhz of processing power to to read it. thas why u dont see anything when u come from off or sleep into on w/ games inside of teh drive. its normal. all psp's do that. now ur laser is bad get another drive or use rubbing alcohol on a qtip and clean it,
have you tried various disks? certan disks may either be scratched or dusty so you coul take a can of compressed air and ust out both some umd's and the umd tray of the psp. also, if you're usuing a custom firmware, you may find it will work once you revert to an official firmware
"tap" not hit.. the back of the psp, (where the game goes in on the back) and see if that works.. that will usually get the laser to read the disk.. perhaps the umd is dirty.. only tap on it "lightly" when you hear it loading.. i know that sounds stupid, but it worked for me countless of times.
