Same message - "Scanner failure, turn power off and then on again." Locks up all functions and makes it useless. Have attempted numerous suggestions for resolution since Nov. 2007 including HP Tech Support's "uninstall software" and reinstall d series software. Tried all 4 reset suggestions from RIZ but unsuccessful resloution.Repair service is $110 per hr. with a 1 hr. minimum and no guarantee the problem can be resolved. With the costs of near comparable new "all in one"" machines, I'm coming to the conclusion to junk & buy. Any suggestions.

    #3 did not helped...

After #6 the printer restarted without going into the light flash... The only thing is it is "initializing" for ever.

Could not try the Full Reset as can not take the print cartridges out while the printer is under initializing or "flashing lights" (locked all the way to the right)

    Appreciate any suggestions …

if the scanner bulb is not moving, then its an hardware problem.
We can try by resetting the printer.

PARTIAL RESET:-Unplug the printer power cable while its ON, press and hold # and 3 button and connect the Power cord while holding.Wait untill the ON light flashes, then release the buttons.

----(for below reset cartridges must be removed out)---------

SEMI_FULL RESET:-Unplug the printer power cable while its ON, press and hold # and 6 button and connect the Power cord while holding.Wait untill the ON light flashes,or wait for 20 seconds, hen release the button. If the printer goes off dont worry release the button and Push the ON button.

FULL NVM RESET:-Take the Ink Cartridges out, Unplug the printer power cable while its ON, press and hold OK/ENTER and CANCEL button and connect the Power cord while holding the buttons.keep Holding the buttons until the printer goes off ,release the button and Push the ON button.

Displays " Scanner Failure"

I've seen a similar issue on other HP All-In-Ones. I had to contact support, but all they do is make sure you try connecting the printer to the wall outlet instead of a surge supressor, then a different wall outlet, then reset to factory defaults. After that didn't work, they submitted an replacement order.

Hope this helps

Scanner failure

1. Check scanner light by trying to make a copy.
Caution: do not look directly in the light
3. Perform a power cycly
* Unplug the power cord from the product while its still on
* Plug the power cord back again after 30 seconds
4. Perform a semi-full reset
* Unplug the power cord from the product while its still on
* Press and hold # and 6 while plugging the power cord
* Do not release the button unless the printer would say reset
5 If you still have the problem replace your printer

Scanner and coiper won't work printer does work

Hi Bbear,

The problem here is with the scanner bulb, the scanner bulb is bad.
I mean to say that your scanner bulb lit for a while and goes off.

This confirms that the scanner bulb is currupted.

I have a web link, which is given below with some of the troubleshooting steps to perform.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=bpu01105&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=390315

Click on the web link given above and perform the steps.
If this fixes the issue, that would be great else you need to replace or get a new or refurbished printer.
