Question about Sony DRU-710A DVD±RW Dual Layer Burner

Sony DRU-710A doesn't write others than DVD+RW anymore

I have installed my Sony DRU-710A 2 one year ago and it operated well. Since a couple of weeks it wont write DVD-R and DVD+R anymore. There are errors like "Not enough space on disk" and "Invalid disk" when I try to write. I'm not aware having anything changed in the settings.

Can anybody help?

I am having the same problems with the drive not writing or burning ANY CDs or DVDs. It has also recently started making and awful noise similar to a vehicles brakes grinding metal to metal (this doesn't happen often) an finally, I noticed that the driver is the same exact driver that is running my standard ATAPI CD reader. This computer ws given to me by an old friend who built it so I don't have many of the software/driver discs. Please help...I have thrown away alot of money's worth of CDs and DVDs.

I have window xp my dvd burner worked fine before now it doesnt

What do you mean "it just stays there"? Can you be a bit more specific? The writing speed doesn't really mean anything apart from being able to burn quicker.

The "drivers" for the sony dru 710a can be downloaded from here:
http://sony.storagesupport.com/product/112#drivers

I would also update the Firmware version too.

Hope that works

Tim

Instalaion

Hi there,

You don't actually need a driver. All cd/dvd drives are plug and play. All you need to do is plug it all in to your system, turn it on, and Windows will do the rest. Once Windows has installed it. You can update everything from here:
http://sony.storagesupport.com/product/112#drivers

Hope this solves your problem

Sony DRY-710A

you are probably using a DVD media that is not supported
take a look at this it tells you all the supported and recommended media, also do the firmware upgrade as this may give more support to other media

thanks for rating

Sony DRU 710 not writing DVDs or CDs

as with all writers eventually they fault at the lens and it gets out of line and cannot read discs, you can try the usual thing of checking Sony for any firmware updates, but first:- Go to my computer>right click>hardware tab>device manager, then down list to cd/dvd drives and click '+' sign and highlight your writer, right click on it and select uninstall. Restart PC and it will be automatically re installed, try again and if no change you will need to replace the drive as they are cheaper nowadays

Problems recording DVD-R 16X

Try this download page to update your firmware from 25/10/05, so if you bought your writer before this date maybe this will work, otherwise buy 8x discs. http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/firmware.htm#710 The faster the discs are burned the more chance of errors there are, you should write at slower speeds for better quality.
