Re: ps3 60gb wont read disc
Hi by them saying refurbished they mean their going to give you one that they have recieved back with a problem like either disk read error or over heating problem. The up side to having a refurbished one is that they replace most of the parts that was in it originally say the problem was not reading disks if they just change the laser then send it out then it might overheat and then they would lose customers and get bad press as they dont want either of this the replace most if not all of the main repalcable parts like lases unit heatsink, fan, controll ports, output ports like to tv and internet. But the bonus to having a refurbished one is the parts they replace the old ones with are newer and made better as they find out what caused the problem in the first place and then improve on the way they make the parts. So if it was me i would take one of the refurbished ones knowing its got a load of new and better parts inside and it should last you alot longer as they deffinately dont want you to send it back to them again do they if this kept happening they would lose all their customers so go for it your going to get a better ps3 than the one you had originally let me know if you need further assistance ok

Red Light Of Death! Common on 1st 60gb models, and also on the noisy 40gb, and other early version ps3's. Basically your graphics card has overheated causing a dry joint on one or several of the contacts on the board. Some pc repair shops offer a quick fix for around £80. Don't bother the repair will probably last around 5mins. I learnt from experience. The equipment needed to carry out a proper repair costs thousands of pounds, and uses infra red technology to heat and solder the graphics card back to the board. The local pc repair shop will almost definitely not have one of these machines. Sony do offer a refurbished console for around £140 and in exchange for your faulty ps3. Which personally I think is a bloody cheek. I'm on my 3rd PS3 now. Spent £500 on the first 60gb model, which got the dreaded RLOD, the same happened to my next 80gb model. I now have the 250gb slimline. Touch wood no problems!
if its a 40gb or 80gb ps3 and you try and put ps2 games in then that wont work, otherwise take the ps3 to a shop and find out the problem, if the ps3 doesnt read any type of disk there is a serious problem and you should really get it checked out
Your blue ray lens needs either cleaning or replacing, maxwell as brought out a blueray lens cleaner disc recommended for even ps3 consoles. If that doesn't work though you have to send it to sony or approved sony repairs centres. Search on google for ps3 repair centres near your area.
This is a dirty or bad bluray drive which seems to be the same as the 3 rings of death for the 360..
Buy a cd laser cleaner and try that if it does not work your laser diode is bad and a new laser is 50$ via ebay.. if you dont want to get to technical then you can buy a drive for 120ish and switch them out.
Sony will charge 150$ + to fix it other then that there is no way around it.. and I believe you need a proof of purchase to get the warranty. I really hope the cd cleaner works but if not then your stuck...
You can sell it on ebay and if its a 60gb you can get about 200 for it... then buy a like new 40gb ps3 for 300ish I have seen just consoles sell at 290 incl shipping. Best of luck!
If you are happy please feel free to rate me THANKS!
i have that problem too although mines is 40GB version i thought it was the grand theft auto 4 bug that had fucked it up but now it looks like a sony problem , gonna have to send it back which i really dont want to do
