Hi the problem is with the data stored onto it.
It probably has corrupt data on the file you loaded onto it you will need to put it back connected to your comp and remove anything you have stored on to it maybe even need complete format let me know if you need further assistance.
The problem was more than likely caused by the data being in the wrong format for your mp3 player

When you plug it into the usb lead does the mp3 light up on its own and can you acess the mp3 files using my computer then selecting removable device let me know ok

  • paul proctor Feb 10, 2008

If the device is still not letting you acess it then the fault is going to be with the mp3 player itself not the data you put on it.
If its still under warranty then i would take it back because to reinstall the software that came with the mp3 player you need special lead and the software to put back onto it.
You cant buy the leads or the software anywhere it is done in the factory and can only be done their.
Is the battery for yours internal so you cant take the battery out.
If your warranty has run out and you cant take it back then you might want to take the cases off and remove the battery for 24 hours doing this can reset the software and get it working again but the problem with this is they are extremely difficult to take apart and even harder to put back together properly.
Also you can cause damage to the battery if its touched wrong and you could short the board out with the static in your body you will need to earth yourself before taking the cases off by touching a radiator or pipe that goes into the ground this removes any static from your body.
If you can get to battery remove it for 24 hours and see if this resets the mp3 only take it apart if you cant take it back to shop as they wont have it back if you removed the screws.
If you dont have the reciept but still have the box and everything that came with it you can find somewhere that sells yours and exchange it they should do this without reciept but tell them you brought it form their and lost reciept but want to exchange they should do this no problem.
Let me know if you need further help ok

  • paul proctor Feb 10, 2008

I know thats why i said it was difficult to do and should only be done if you are capable of doing work like this as it is difficult and its even more difficult to put back together.
The problem is their are no instructions on how to do this as they like you to send them off to get repaired and then they can charge you for this service whitch would cost more than a new mp3 player.
If their is no way you can take it back then have a go at taking the case off it is difficult and you could damage it further by doing this but it is up to you what you do but be warned it is difficult and damaging it further is possible but if you cant get anybody to do it for you then your only option is yourself.
Thats if removing the battery solves your problem as it works sometimes but all depends on where the error in the data is.
If the error is in ram based mem then you might be luck but if the circuit or rom based mem is damaged then you might never fix it.
Its upto you but you might be fighting a losing battle let me know ok how you get on

  • paul proctor Feb 10, 2008

Their is also a load of clips running along the edge of case it is difficult to do if you try to hard you could damage the board itself cant you get it to stop on untill the battery is totally flat let me know ok

  • paul proctor Feb 10, 2008

Hi im looking now for you apparently you can take the back panel off to replace the battery ill let you know what i find out okay dont do anything yet okay

  • paul proctor Feb 11, 2008

what it says is their are screws on the back panel remove these then the case should come off this giving you acess to the lithium battery let me know how you get on ok

  • paul proctor Feb 11, 2008

Just found out if your is the E280 that has no screws in the back then it is not possible to remove the covers their are 2 E280 they done 1 that the back is held on by screws but then they made the back stronger and removed the screws making it difficult to remove the case it says it needs to be sent back to get battery replaced and as you dont need the battery replacing i dont know what you can do.
The only option left is to keep switching it on and off untill the battery is totally flat

  • paul proctor Feb 11, 2008

Also what does your comp say when its plugged in to the usb port and what does it say on the screen of mp3 player let me know ok

  • paul proctor Feb 11, 2008

Can you acess the software on your comp without the mp3 plugged in and acess the recovery mode this way then plugging your mp3 player into your comp see if you can acess the recovery programme on your comp before plugging mp3 player in see if it lets you do it this way let me know ok

dont have it plugged into computer ok
    1. with power off switch hold to on and leave on
    2. press and hold rec button on left hand side keep holding
    3. switch sansa on whilst holding rec button down
    4. now it should be in recovery mode
If you get this far let me know ok

  • paul proctor Feb 11, 2008

Aftter getting to get it in recovery mode you will then need to update the firmware if you go onto the sansa hompage you can download the latest firmware for free what you need to do is download the firmware first then follow instruction before connecting mp3 player to the computer dont take your mp3 player apart untill you have tried doing this first ok please follow instructions as i have written them okay then you should have no problems let me know if you need further assistance ok sorry it took so long but had to check all possibilitys first if the firmware dont solve the problem then you will need to get the whole unit reset and reprogrammed ok

  • paul proctor Feb 11, 2008

let me know if you have tried switching the hold button to locked then holding rec button down whilst switching it on
with it off press the lock button so it locks the buttons then press and hold record button on left hand side keep it presses and press the on button whilst still holding record button down dont let go of record button untill it comes on it should then be in recovery mode.
When it is you need to download the latest firmware its free on the sansa website if you cant find it i can get u the link but you should have no problem finding it ok once downloaded follow instructions it will tell you when to plug mp3 into comp then update the firmware and problem should be solved unless the problem is with the registry if it is their is nothing you can do but send it off to be repaired ok let me know how you get on ok.

  • paul proctor Feb 11, 2008

HERE IS THE LINK TO THEIR SITE WITH FIRMWARE UPDATE here is the link sorry about capitol letter but lots of chat boxes so need you to see these the link is:
go to this site and download the latest firmware this will solve your problem i didnt know their firmware coverd the recovery programme and allows users to reset the software on their mp3 player your just lucky that sansa have this covered obviously a common problem im just going to work now but will be back online in morning hope this isnt a problem good luck and speak soon ok

  • paul proctor Feb 11, 2008

Hey good news you sorted the first bit out now before connecting to your computer download the firmware from the previous post this will give you acess to the firmware download this then it should tell you how to install it onto your mp3.
If you plug it into your comp you should get this message under my computer 16mbFORMAT dont do anything download firmware first this should talk you through how to install it dont have it connected to computer whilst downloading firmware wait untill it tells you to.
When its downloaded you might have to select it from your desktop or under programmes list it should guide you through the process.
Hopefully problem solved let me know though ok

  • paul proctor Feb 14, 2008

Hi if you have installed the latest firmware then the problem is going to be an actual fault with the circuit board itself as their is no servicable parts on it this means you will need to send it to them for them to repair the firmware usuall repiars problems with the software or problems related if after this you have a problem then its is deffinately going to be an internal fault on the circuit board you will need to contact customer support they are pretty good and can tell you the best way of geting this repaired
Usually when the device is saying load main image switch to recovery mode this error relates to the image that loads up when you switch it on the firmware would reload all this imfo back onto the device but as you till have problem then its going to be a part needs replacing related to the screen

  • paul proctor Feb 15, 2008

Hi the only part you can format is all the songs but you cant format the actual data on the mp3 player they dont give you acess to these files so you cant format it .
The error message loadmain image failed start in recovery mode this means that the data containing the image that comes on when you switch device on it will be the first image that displays its saying their is a problem with this image and start in recovery mode this is telling you to reset the device and reinstall the firmware whilst installing the firmware the resets everything and writes over any bad data this is why im thinking its an actual fault and not software error.
What ill do is il try and locate your exact problem and see if it is covered in the firmware ok ill let you know how i get on ok.
Have you tried installing the firmware again just to be sure it has completed the install properly let me know and ill let you know what i find out ok.

  • paul proctor Feb 15, 2008

Thats the link if it dont work then let me know and ill look again for you the last part should look like _refresh its split the word in the link but it should be refresh ok let me know how you get on ok hopefully this should solve your problem ok

Touble shooter

to run recovery mode is done by 1. Enabling the Hold Switch on the device when it is showing red 2. Press the record button then press the Menu/Power Button then it will show welcome to recovery mode on the screen of the player. I want to ask are you receiving Load Main Image Failed Switch to Recovery mode? If so reloading the correct firmware for your device will resolve this issue. Take note that there are 3 models of the sansa E200 , the first one it the Version 1 while the second one is the Rhapsody Model the one that has a rhapsody channel on it and the latest one which is the Version 2 that supports audible and SDHC cards.
