Diagnostic Revealed Failed Power Supply Unit

Circuit City tentatively diagnosed a failure in our power supply unit (without any testing). Won't guaranty that is the problem and wants us to spend big bugs to "see". Can we purchase this part and install it ourselves for our JVC? How and where do we purchase? Are there manuals that will help?

The self-diagnostic lamp 1 (at the top) blinks continuously--all are red. Thanks!

Tell me in detail what your set is doing. If there are blinking LEDs involved then tell me how many times it blinks and what color it's blinking.

That blinking code means that the temperature is too high in the power supply circuit. You might very well have a bad power supply board. But I don't suggest replacing it unless you fully know what you'll be up against. There are several plugs and flat ribbon cables and if you hook it back up wrong it could do other damage. To purchase the board you can go to www.tritronicsinc.com. If you're unsure of what to do then I suggest you take it to someone who is an authorized JVC service center near you.

Chances are also if its Dead to start with is replace the fuse in the supply line.(Simple test)... Circuit City is not qulafied to do anything other than plug it in and try to turn on. Corporate will not let them even have a soldering iron for the most part as the Liabilitiy is too high in their opinion.. (Weve had a ton of various Items referred to us by all of the Big-Dogs/Take the diagnostic fees and run types)..

Just another option and Am not trying to down you either C-dog..

That means its not Dead and perhaps C-dog is more better to talk to.. (I'm shooting in the dark and Dead means No power).. If he knows the codes? Hey run with it bud!

Insignia lcd lt20s power supply doesen't work (no turn on)

Possible that the power supply has failed. It can be due to failure of the SMPS- switch mode power supply - unit .Normally the switching drive IC or drier can be short and so there will be no chopping to the transformer. You need to understand this basic circuit so as to trace the fault.
Please check this link for support.

Protron 32 inch tv sounds work, but black screen

Possible that the back light circuit has failed. You need to check on the invertor circuit , it can be due to failure of the power supply to the unit, if so trace back to the power supply and check for open fusible resisitors or fuse.
If power is absent check on the SMPS unit.
If there is power then th drive or the transformer is a suspect.

hi welcome to fixya
i want to clarify first the problem sir so as of now the problem with your tv won't power on then you are using again the old main board is that right ? when you use the new replacement main board the tv is functioning will the only problem is that the HDMI / DVI inputs doesn't work. and now you encountered power supply problem like won't start up or something that cut the supply in which the stand by indicator is turn off so as my idea it has a problem with the old board. but before you come up with the board making sure all the connectors coming from the power supply is properly connected to the main board as will as flexible and lvds cable for the T-con board is properly inserted.just let me know if is that what you are asking for so i can give you additional solution thanks for consulting the fixya.

My 3 year old Sanyo DP50747 tv quit, and now won't come on at all!

Possible failure of the main power supply for the circuit. If you are equipped and have the tech to probe then you can check on the SMPS- switch mode power supply - unit of the TV.

Vizio VX37L won't turn on. The light on the front does not come on even when plugged in. I replaced the power supply unit and it is working correctly (tested power output using voltmeter). I was wondering...

Good day.

The common 3 causes of power supply breakdown.
  1. The power failure of main supply (brown-out)-Because when the power failure occurs, your ac supply is gone and when its back to normal, the first current that flows in the circuit is more higher than the normal.Specially when the power failure happens only on split seconds.
  2. Too much load-It is usually happens on the big screen like 32inches,40inches and more.Because when the TV is big the load of the unit is also higher. However it takes a long period of time to malfunction the Power supply because it is specially design to that load capacity.
  3. Heat-Too much heat can cause a malfunction of the Power supply and even some parts like Main board and inverter board.
And you can find a decent replacement of your power supply and other spare parts here in good price:
http://www.electronica-usa.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=EU&Product_Code=DPS247APB&Category_Code=
However,The stock of your Power supply is sold out now but you already have a new power supply now so its OK to wait until the stocks is available.

I hope this information will be helpful.Thank you for using FixYa.

Tv won't turn on with remote or the power button on tv unit

The most common cause of Failure in this unit is power supply failure caused by failed capacitors.
A visual inspection is The easiest way to identify and confirm bad capicitors on the power supply.
Such a capacitor will show one or more of these symptoms:
1) Bulging of the vent on the top of the capacitor. (The 'vent' is the impression stamped in the top of the can. The impression forms the seams of the vent. It is designed so that if the capacitor becomes pressurized it will split at the seams relieving the pressure rather than making it explode.)
2) Sitting crooked on the circuit board as the bottom rubber plug is pushed out.
3) Electrolyte (a crusty brown substance) leaked onto the board from the base of the capacitor
4) Venting from the top of the capacitor, visible as rust-like brown deposits, or a visible hole in the vent
Once the power supply is repaired or replaced your tv should work normally

Why does it keep switching itself off

This sounds like a problem with the power supply. Usually capacitors on the power supply board tend to dome, bulge or dry up. The damaged ones can be seen on the power supply circuit board when the back is removed. The dry ones have to be removed and tested. The caps can be replaced at a repair shop for around $200, but if the power supply board has to be replaced it can cost a little more. It all depends on the shops repair fees.

My tv does not turn on

Hi,

This problem is likely a failed power supply. This is a known issue with this model TV. It will normally occur soon after the warrenty expires. It can also be caused by a voltage surge produced by a power failure. You might wish to unplug the TV for an hour or more. If this power reset does not allow the TV to turn on component failure is indicated. These sets are assembled using the wave soldering process they are known for having cold solder connections. The safety circuitry shuts the TV set down or will keep it from turning on when it detects a problem. This model of TV has over 2,000 parts, which includes millions of transistors inside the integrated circuits. The capacitors will change value, leak and become defective. Resistors will change value and burn. Diodes and IC can go bad. This may have a domino effect and cause other parts to fail. Replacing one defective part may make the TV operate for a short time but the part will fail again if the parts that caused the failure to begin with are not replaced. The only way to know for sure which parts that are no longer within factory specs and for a proper repair all the electronics must be diagnosed by someone with the correct electronic test equipment specifically designed for TV service and the skills to use the test equipment. I wish I could tell you there was a quick fix or button to push that would fix the TV but that is not the case or the solution needed to get the TV operating correctly.

Let me know, if need further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!
