Question about Barebone Systems

1 Answer

I have a Canon Pixma IP 5000 inkjet printer and am using Mac OS 10.3.9. It has 5 ink cartridges: 2 black (3e and 6) and one each yellow, magenta and cyan. I use it all day every day. After printing perfectly normally it now won't print 3e black. I have cleaned it repeatedly - using special ink cleaning cartridges and two replacement 3e cartridges (neither of which seem to be using ink during the cleaning process) but it still will not print. All tests prints are OK for all colours except 3e black which is very spidery. Consecutive test prints vary but despite cleaning it does not get progressively better....just when I think it appears to be getting better the next test print will have the whole centre portion missing, or even less of a pattern than the time before. Is the only solution replacing the printhead? I'd be grateful for any advice. Thanks AB

Thanks for getting back to me.
Sorry this ain't a solution but it seems to be the only cash-free way to contact you. No problem not solved - though I have tried everything. Dismantled the printer; washed, dried and replaced the waste ink pads; washed the print head; blew compressed air through the print-head sponge; replaced the cartridge 3 times; printed hundreds of test prints. I can't think of anything else to do and so I think the only solution is to replace the printhead (probably not even available) or replace the printer. The latter is looking most likely.

I no longer have my manual, how do I change the ink cartridges for the HP Officejet 6300 all-in-one?

To replace the print cartridges
1. Make sure the HP All-in-One is on.
Caution If the HP All-in-One is off when you open the print cartridge door
to access the print cartridges, the HP All-in-One will not release the
cartridges for changing. You might damage the HP All-in-One if the print
cartridges are not docked safely on the right side when you try to remove
them.
2. Open the print cartridge door.
The print carriage moves to the far right side of the HP All-in-One.
3. Wait until the print carriage is idle and silent, and then lightly press down on a
print cartridge to release it.
If you are replacing the tri-color print cartridge, remove the print cartridge from the
slot on the left.
If you are replacing the black or photo print cartridge, remove the print cartridge
from the slot on the right.
4. Pull the print cartridge toward you out of its slot.
5. If you are removing the black print cartridge in order to install the photo print
cartridge, store the black print cartridge in the print cartridge protector or an
airtight plastic container.
If you are removing the print cartridge because it is low or out of ink, recycle the
print cartridge. The HP Inkjet Supplies Recycling Program is available in many
countries/regions, and lets you recycle used print cartridges free of charge. For
more information, go to the following website:
www.hp.com/hpinfo/globalcitizenship/environment/recycle/inkjet.html
6. Remove the new print cartridge from its packaging and, being careful to touch
only the black plastic, gently remove the plastic tape by using the pink pull tab.
7. Slide the new print cartridge forward into the empty slot. Then gently push on the
upper part of the print cartridge forward until it clicks into the socket.
If you are installing the tri-color print cartridge, slide it into the left slot.
If you are installing a black or photo print cartridge, slide it into the right slot.
8. Close the print cartridge door
9. If you installed a new print cartridge, the print cartridge alignment process begins.
10. Make sure you have plain paper loaded in the input tray, and then press OK.
11. The HP All-in-One aligns the print cartridges. Recycle or discard the print
cartridge alignment sheet.
12. Press OK.

I have a Canon PIXMA MP530 all in on copier/printer. I inadvertently inserted a magenta ink cartridge into the yellow cartridge slot. I immediately corrected the problem but, now when I try to print I...

Try to reset your printer it might fixed your problems:
To reset your device do the following steps.

While the printer is on, remove the power cord from the back of the printer, wait 30 seconds, and then plug the power cord into the back of the printer.
If the printer is not already on, turn it on by pushing the power button.
Try printing again. I think it will help you.

Thanks

Hello Landscapeman ,

You need to specify the paper type when the print dialog box appears. Heavy glossy paper needs to spend more time in the fuser so that the toner is fixed.

I've had luck taking the print head out of the printer and setting it on a damp paper towel til the ink wicks out. The black ink probably dried a bit in the head. at least it worked for me.
Good luck

The cartridge needs cleaning. There are several things you can try. Using a wet paper towel, you can wipe the gold portion of the cartridge to try and draw out ink, or you can dunk the entire cartridge in warm water for a couple minutes or so (I have done this with success). The process is more clearly explained here:
