I did what was recommended, it fixed the major problem of going completely black. Now it just dims to where you can still see it, but its darker than it should be and its a real pain in the butt to look at. Wonder what it could be...

Have owned a iiyama 17" pro crt for a few years,

These were a fine monitor and with the kind of image quality you cannot get on TFT's.
If you know the graphics card you are using is working ok, have checked the VGA cable connection and socket at the monitor and computer and have tested the monitor on another computer, that would rule out any problems as far as connected devices are concerned.

The problem you describe, and it is unusual that it has happened so quickly, points to a failure of the monitor internal board. You may be able to get this repaired at a reasonable cost by seeking the opinion of a TV repairman, who might be able to fix it.

Monitor works ok then suddenly loose picture(black screen) turn monitor off then turn it back on works for approx 5 secs then goes back to black screen

there are many reason why a monitor suddenly turned off then back to work again , over use may over heat that cause the soled parts on the printed board of your CRT go loosen , try to re sold it, sometimes your PC might stop viewing so the monitor automatically shot off stby mode , loose connection due to basted parts , capacitors, power regulators, resistors , even the cables also might be.

Screen is whitish and its blinking with white lines

The Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) can develope a short circuit in the neck area of the tube that will cause this. I suggest that you remove the plastic cover of the monitor, and tap on the neck of the cathode ray tube with the plastic handle side of a screw driver. Be careful while the cover is off of the monitor not to touch any wires or the high voltage wire that connects to the side of the tube. There is very high voltage used to operate the CRT and it will zap you!!

Overstretched screen

the circuitry to regulate the screen size and the height and width has failed and your crt need service but it would be more expensive to repair than to purchase a new LCD monitor.
the control pots or resistors usually go out on a crt over a period of time and have to be replaced This is very expensive. Also with the pots the capacitors in line with the resistors have to be replaced. Then there are the regulator components such as a LM317 which regulates the voltage to the circuit to keep it at constant voltage for the pots to adjust.

My crt monitor has a white ghost image to the right. It looks like JPEG artifacts. I've replaced the monitor and I've tried another graphics card, but it's still there. The PC is an HP d325.

A ghost on your screen is usually caused by a second or reflection of the same image getting into your monitor, and the space between the real image ant the ghost is the delay in time or extra distance the second image travels before it is displayed on your screen. It is usually caused by a defective video cable or a cable longer than usual like 8 feet or more. Also is your monitor plugged into the same outlet as the computer, and is the case on your computer as all are possible reasons for your problem. Some times adding a ground wire from monitor to computer can correct problem. This can be a problem that takes some real detective work to find, and all I can do is suggest some possible causes.

i have experienced this problem before with a nec crt monitor and its permanent and can not be fixed with out having to flush money into it. personally i wold not deal with it. in this day in age era LCD monitors are almost dirt cheap plus if you put it this way which is more valuble to you your health? or your monitor. the reason asking this is because crt monitors outputs a high dose of radiation. partly the reason to produce lcd monitors they dont disapate heat like crts and they dont have all that radiation build up like crt monitors hold. so if you would rather have your health then get a lcd for sure.

No picture on monitor 997M

One reason that this is happening could be that it is on Power saving mode. This happens when the LCD monitor detecs an incorrect timing then thats the time that the LCD goes blank and the power botton starts to blink.

what you need to do is to turn the computer off. Unplug cables attach to the LCD make sure it is also off, once done press the power botton for a couple of 30secs to a minute and then release. After doing so re-connect all the cables and make sure that both ends is tight and secure once everything is ok turn the computer on same with the monitor to check if it solves the problem.
