I have had my Pentax K7 camera for 6 months and taken >1000 photos. Suddenly when turned on it wouldn't focus (under autofocus) or operate the shutter. When I depress the button there is no action. If I remove the lens, then turn it on, the mirror moves and shutter triggers. Battery is fully charged. The lens is Pentax 18 - 250mm.
Try cleaning the contacts on the lens and camera body where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

Thanks but unfortunately that didn't do the trick. I have found that an older lens with an adapter but not autofocus did allow shots to be taken so the autofocus may be the problem.
Thanks for the comment. I did try another Pentax lens on my camera with the same result. The camera is under warranty so a quick fix is not going to do it. It appears to be an electronic problem - I thought I was doing something wrong in set up but suspect it is more serious. I have now taken it to the dealer and sent it back to Pentax. Let's see what comes back. In other respects I am really pleased with the performance of the K7 and this lens. It has been handled carefully, so could not have been physically damaged although I did buy it for its advertised robustness.
I agree - the more people that buy and use them the better the follow up service from Pentax; and the more lenses etc they release.
