The camera would not start up to take photos.

I have had my Pentax K7 camera for 6 months and taken >1000 photos. Suddenly when turned on it wouldn't focus (under autofocus) or operate the shutter. When I depress the button there is no action. If I remove the lens, then turn it on, the mirror moves and shutter triggers. Battery is fully charged. The lens is Pentax 18 - 250mm.

Thanks but unfortunately that didn't do the trick. I have found that an older lens with an adapter but not autofocus did allow shots to be taken so the autofocus may be the problem.

Thanks for the comment. I did try another Pentax lens on my camera with the same result. The camera is under warranty so a quick fix is not going to do it. It appears to be an electronic problem - I thought I was doing something wrong in set up but suspect it is more serious. I have now taken it to the dealer and sent it back to Pentax. Let's see what comes back. In other respects I am really pleased with the performance of the K7 and this lens. It has been handled carefully, so could not have been physically damaged although I did buy it for its advertised robustness.

I agree - the more people that buy and use them the better the follow up service from Pentax; and the more lenses etc they release.

Try cleaning the contacts on the lens and camera body where they meet with a cotton swab lightly dampened with rubbing alcohol.

According to some posts on the DPreview Pentax SLR forum, some others have had problems with the 18-250 lens. Test it on another camera before you condemn the camera body.

I sincerely hope it comes back perfect. I want everyone to have a great experience with the K7 as I am.

I inadvertently programmed the date stamp on instead of off. Is there any way I can remove the date stamp from the photos that I have taken? The camera is a Pentax Optio 60.

The pixels behind the numbers are permanently lost. You can edit the photos just like any other photos, but it would be an edit, not a restoration. It's just like removing an unwanted person or signpost from a picture.

My Pentax Optio 450 retains only one photo on the memory card

Have you tried using a card reader to download the pictures from your card to your computer? I bet the pictures are there.

Camera suddenly stopped responding, maked grating noise and shows HI in window. wil not turn off.

If the 'H' disappears when the zoom lever is moved the camera is ready for use. If the 'H' appears often, it should be taken to the service.

Get it repaired under warranty. Sounds like a logic circuit problem.
