Question about GE Security Simon 3 Wireless Home Security System

System Low Battery

I just bought a brand new GE Wireless Simon 3 security system and ever since it was set up the system status light is always lit and it says "System Low Battery".  Its brand new though and the manuel states the batteries usually lst 2 - 3 years.  What can I do or do I need a new battery?? Also, probably because there is a low battery...when i select no entry delay and open a window the alarm/siren doesn't go off.  It said in the manuel it might not if your system is on low battery.. so that could be why but I just don't understand why I am having so many problems so soon!!

I have exactly the same problem. It is caused by plugging the transformer in before connecting the battery. Simon not the problem in their manual but amazingly offer no solution.

It can also be cause if the battery is disconnected to stop the alarm going off.

Same issue - tried doing as person suggested - it worked for a couple days and then went back to low battery. Switched batteries again and tried powering down. Still have low battery issue.

This is the solution! Unplug the transformer, install the new battery, then plug the transformer back in. Many, many thanks.

Response 1 is correct. If you plugged the transformer into an outlet before connecting the battery the system wont see the battery and give you that error. Should be a simple fix however. Unplug the battery and then the transformer, then reverse the process. Plug in the battery and your Simon should power up, then plug in the transformer. If this doesn't help then you should replace the battery. Did you buy the system from a dealer and have it professionally installed or did you do-it-yourself? If it was professionally installed have your technician come back out to diagnose/replace the battery if needed. Good Luck.

Take the battery out of the system, go to battery, plus get a new one, plug the battery first ( red to red, black to black,) then plug in the transformer.

Check the outlet to ensure it :1- has power , 2- is not a switched outlet. Check your wire connections to ensure they are secure. If all of the above are good, the transformer may have shorted when disconnecting. Use a voltage meter on the transformer terminals and the AC scale, check the output of the transformer.

Can any wireless door or window sensor be used with the ge simon

Sad to say but other brands of wireless door and window sensors will not work with the ge simon. Other sensors has different command patterns that it will not recognize the command coming from the GE Security Simon 3.

There is no fuse on the Simon 3 board. If your transformer is good and measures 9-11V AC you charging circuit is gone and you will need a new motherboard. AlarmProfessor.net

I have a brand new GE Simon 3 system and am getting a low battery warning. Does it need to charge for a few days out of the box, or was i given a bad part?

No it does not need a few days 12 hrs should have been enough. you will need a multi meter to check this. pull battery off panel after confirming leed where connected properly. meter battery. I believe its a 6v battery should read 6.25-6.5v approx. if so check volts on the leads should also read 6.25-6.5v appox. if so try running sensor test. open panel door look for red numbers enter your code then select sensor (test) then "done" wait 5 min then close panel door. Then press status button. if this does not solve problem. time for service call.

The system battery was low and I replaced it. The system status continues to say that the battery is low.

The new battery may not be fully charges, need to wait a while.
Also try this enter your code + off, again enter your code + off.
If this dosen't work, remove your battery and power down your system.
Wait about 30 seconds, plig in your battery first and then power up your alarm system. You may have to adjust the time.

Let me know.
