Hi,
Your magellan roadmate 760 unit does not have any reset option. To over come the signal problem just follow the trobleshooting steps givven below .............

NOTE: If you are trying these steps from your vehicle, it is
Recommended to follow when the vehicle is in a stationary position.
Make sure that the device is exposed to the clear view of sky.

With the antenna pointing upwards, remove the antenna and then re-insert.
Swivel it up and down to make sure its securely placed.

wait for few mins and check the signal indicator.
Still not working,

  • Turn on the unit and select any user.
  • Make sure that the antenna is in the upright position and the unit has
a direct line of sight with the sky.
  • Select 'Option' from the keypad.
  • Then select 'Configuration'.
  • Scroll down to select 'Diagnostics'.
  • Scroll down again to select 'Initialize GPS'.
  • At this point you would receive two options, 'Yes or No' - select 'YES'.
  • Now scroll down and select 'Set GPS Position'.
  • Enter your City, Street name and number at the corresponding
    prompts.

NOTE: The address that you are entering in the Set GPS Position should be the address at which you are at that point of time.

Thank you ! I followed these directions and it cured my lock up. My pointer was way off on I95 but it snapped back to Orlando and then I took it for a test drive and it followed me along like a puppy dog. I was on the brink of tossing the whole shebang into the trash..

I had the same issue. i ended up buying a garmin nuvi 680 as i needed something immediately. months later i plugged the gps into my pc and ran diskcheck. no problems found. i then ran acronis truimage echo workstation and imaged the gps to a file on my hard drive. i pressed - and repeat at the same time on the gps whe nit booted to the select user screen. i went to the utility to format the drive. upon reformatting the drive i restored the image to the gps via usb cable in acronis. took about 4 hours to do this since its usb 1.0, but the end result upon rebooting the gps was that in 5 minutes it locked onto my location.

Does this do anything? It seems like setting the position is an override, and doesn't help the GPS locate anything.

I have a Garmin Nuvi 300 model and from last few days its not picking the satellite signals when I open the antenna, it keeps saying searching for satellitie signal. What could be problem & can it be...

Hello there,
As GPS units are used, data is gathered which helps them acquire satellites quickly at the start of each use. If a device is used daily it should be able to acquire satellites in a minute or less. Using a GPS device while it is outdoors with a clear view of the entire sky is the ideal condition for acquiring satellites. Please know that there can be several different factors that may cause a GPS unit to not acquire satellites:
If your unit is trying to acquire satellites for the first time, it may take longer than normal to establish an initial position. If the unit is powered on and outdoors with a clear view of the sky this should not take more than 3-5 minutes. If your unit has not been used for an extended period of time (more than a month), it may take 3-5 minutes to acquire satellites. If your unit is indoors, it may not acquire satellites. Even standing next to a window indoors will block a majority of the sky which is needed for a device to locate and lock onto a satellite signal. If you have just finished updating the software in your unit or you have performed a master reset, your unit may take 3-5 minutes to acquire while outdoors as the data that is used to locate satellites may have been erased. If your unit has traveled over 500 miles while turned off or not tracking your travel, it may take 3-5 minutes to acquire even in ideal conditions. If your vehicle has a protective coating on its windshield or electronic devices which interfere with the unit receiving signal, your unit may need an external antenna* in order to acquire satellites. If you suspect this to be an issue, try taking the unit outside of the vehicle with a clear view of the sky for 3-5 minutes so that the unit can acquire satellites. If your unit loses satellites once moved back into your vehicle you will most likely need an external antenna*. If your unit is still having trouble acquiring satellites, please ensure that it has the latest version of operating software by using our WebUpdater program. Once your unit is updated please allow the unit to acquire satellites outdoors in a stationary position with a clear view of the sky.
*Note: Some units may not be compatible with an external antenna. Please check the Compatible Devices tab on the external antenna's page to see if your unit is listed.
Hope this was helpful to you. Goodluck Elect_Comp

Updated unit and still acquiring satelites is showing, what can i do?

If your unit is still acquiring satellite, then it means the signal strength is weak, try to get it outside where it can be facing the sky directly so it will be able to acquire satellite. Once you just update your gps receiver, it seems like it is brand new and when it wants to first acquire satellite, it might take longer to do so. But if it has access to the sky directly, it should take about 3 to 5 minutes to acquire.
If your unit is indoor, it may not acquire satellite, even if it is close to the window, it will not, but if it is outside, then it will acquire faster.
Check if you have any protective coating on your windshield or electronic devices which interfere with the unit from receiving signal from the satellite. Try to see if your gps receiver can use an antenna, then connect one to it and your gps will acquire satellite.
Try to reset your gps first before trying any other solution for the unit.

My Golflogix keeps on searching for satellites. Using it for the first time, do I need to be on the course?

No, you do not need to be on a course for it to acquire satellites, however new units sometimes need to be left outside with clear sky view for up to 30 minutes to fully acquire signals.

Nextar GPS Never acquires GPS Signal

The only thing you can try is the external antenna for this unit.

You could be in an area that has poor signal.

If it where me, I would go to a place that I could return a unit,
I only use garmin, there hand-held unit's are the top rated for
the frequency of getting satellites.

So say you have a walmart, see if you can return a unit, buy a garmin
and see if it get better reception, and if it doesn't then its not the unit.

If it does, sell you old one on ebay.

GPS wont aquire a satellite

Hello there and happy new year
If Your Unit Cannot Acquire Satellite Signals
  1. For your Garmin GPS unit to acquire the satellite signals it needs to function properly, the unit must be taken outside, away from mountains, tall buildings and heavy foliage where it can get a clear view of the sky. Keep the unit stationary for several minutes while the GPS unit acquires the necessary satellite signals. It may take several minutes for the unit to locate a good solid signal
  2. OK
  3. Hope this is very helpful please keep me posted on this ok?
    Best regards Michael

No satellites signal

Update/Reload your unit's GPS and sytem software via Garmin page or use Web Updater. Your unit will be functioning again. This problem also occurs if you leave your unit on a dash board in a car and it is exposed to hight temperature.

Unit will not acquire the satellite signs

FYI ....My Roadmate 760 would not aquire a signal, I went to diagnostic screen and found it was detecting/tracking 0/0 satellites. Held the plugged in unit out the window and within 10 seconds was tracking 7 satellites! Turned out my 1999 Olds Silhouette Van has a anti-glare filter inside the factory windshield that blocks GPS signals. My wifes 2001 Chevy Impala also has same type filter. Check your windshield, filter is visible inside glass to within about three inches of edges of glass. Worth a look.

My Garmin has stopped finding destinations - just says "Searching for Satellite)+

I had the same problem with my Nuvi 310. Found a solution in here that works. Here's a copy of the advice.....note you will need to get in the car and set it for a destination and go. 5-10 mins later the Garmin Nuvi will lose the satellites, but don't adjust it it, leave it on and keep going. Eventually after about an hour it will right itself, pick up the satellites and evrything will be back to normal.

Here's the advice:

I experienced the same problem about acquiring satellite signal even when it's a clear sunny day. After 30 mintues, it was still searching!
The unit appeared to have "stuck" in this acquiring mode. The following worked for me:
1) open the GPS antenna
2) press the bottom left screen while holding the power button to turn the unit on
3) enter maintenace mode
4) select diagnostics
5) clear error report, do NOT clear any user data
6) restart unit the usual way

My GPS 350 was able to acquire satellite signal in less than 1 minute after the above steps were taken.
