PC Saying there is a fault (code 39)

I was using my PC yesturday with no problems. Today however the PC does not show the CD drive at all, I went to the device manager and it showed my CD drive with a little warning icon next to it. I clicked on it and it says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)
Click 'Check for solutions' to send data about this device to Microsoft and to see if there is a solution available."

I have done all of that but it still does not work. Any suggestions?

I hav VGN CR24G/BNow the problem is that it show no dvd drive on MyComputer but shows yellow triangle on Device Manager pioneer DVD-RW DVR-K17 ATA device and shows error code 39 in the device status....

Try right clicking on the triangle and choose to update driver if you have the internet choose use internet this one time option, and see if it can find an updated driver.

Unplug pc from the mains and take the side panel of, check the cables are in correctly, also check the drive is set to the right jumper setting usually master.

Also check in the bios to see if you have raid capabilities, it would be worth disabling it. It is for hard drives not for removable devices.

My cd writer driver is showing error code 39

Your drive may have taken a driver update, causing the problem. In device manager, right click on the device and select properties, then under the driver tab, select "Roll back driver". If a driver update is at fault it will complete the roll back and hopefully cure your ills. If there is no driver to roll back to, you can attempt an update under the same tab.
I hope this helps and good luck.

DVDRW doesn't show Drive in My Explorer.

You may have a virtual drive installed on your PC. (ex: Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120%, etc). If this is the case, make sure they are not set to automatically "mount" or start-up with windows. I had this same problem just today... fixed it by removing the auto-start feature and reinstalling the .CD/DVD burner/

Drive not showing in WinXP (error code 39)Liteon Combo SOHC-5236v

After loading the Windows, the DVD/CD-ROM drives work properly, but we can not see the drives in “My Computer” (System can not recognize the drives.). When try to run the drives, it shows up a notice “Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code39).” Before solving this error, check the drives connection correctly, then follow the steps below:
Delete Device Manager. Most people will firstly think of Windows “Find New Hardware” when drives missed, but it does not always work out. To fix the problem: open “My Computer”’ “Control Panel” ’“System”’“Device Manager”’ “HDC(Hard Disk Controller) ”, then click “Delete”. Follow the note to reboot computer. After rebooting, the computer will find the Primary IDE Controller and Secondary IDE Controller again and install the drivers. Restart the computer again while the installation is completed. In this, we can get back our CD/DVD-ROM Drives.

The other way is by editing the registry to return the missed CD/DVD-ROM drives (Code 39 error.). Obviously, it is too risky to edit the registry if you are not familiar with it. To fix the error from the registry, carry out the following steps:
Exit and close all applications currently running on your PC.
Step1. Click Start > Run and type in Regedit, press Enter.
Step2. Look for the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\ {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Delete any of the following registry entries under this key directory:
LowerFilters
LowerFilters.bak
UpperFilters
UpperFilters.bak
Step3. Reboot your PC and open My Computer to check that the CD-ROM drive is visible.
Also, have a look at the Device Manager to see if the yellow exclamation mark and the error code 39 are gone.

System errors are not welcome guests that bring up unhappy computing experience. Registry Easy (www.registryeasy.com) is a professional troubleshooting system maintenance tool that can help you to solve this error and many more.

the bus settings may be the settings that have been changed by roxio, if you havent uninstalled the previous burning programme. Try uninstalling any burning programme you have, restart the pc and install the programme you require. If it continues you may need to uninstall the drive, by way of :- my computer>properties>hardware tab>device manager and look down list to dvd/cdrom drives and click '+' sign to your dvd line and right click and uninstall. Restart pc and it will automaticaly install again, ready for use.
