Washing cycles work fine unless I choose hot water. No water runs in but the washer will continue with cycle.

I have a top loading maytag washer. when i turn the "wash/rinse" control knob to "hot/cold" no water will flow into the machine when I activate the lalrge pull/push start knob. Howeverr, the "wash/rinse" knob works when it is in any other position and water will flow into the machine. FYI....hot water nozzle is turned on and the hot water heater is functional.

Is the hot water hot that is coming to the washer? Are you using the correct settings on the unit? If yes to both then either the solinoid water valve is bad or the timer switch unit is bad. Try going to a totally hot water setting. While turning on the machine feel of the hot water line at the machine and see if you notice a buzz or feel a click as you turn on the machine. On this setting does water run in and is it hot or cold. If water runs and it is cold try going to a total cold setting and see if you get cold or hot water. Is this a new setup or has it been working and stopped? If new, you could have the hoses connected backward. If you get water in both hot and cold settings but cold both ways then your hot water heater is not working....let me know....

The main timer control switch or module controls which valve opens and when. If you get cold water to run on cold settings and nothing on hot settings, that would be my next guess...The hot water valve has to be told when to open..it gets 120vac from the timer control or module which ever you have...If you can use a multimeter I can talk you through this...

SOURCE: have cold water, but no hot water for washer

Make sure the hot water is hot.....coming to the machine..See if you hear the control valve click in when you turn on the machine in a totally hot water setting..If no click or no water runs in the solinoid for hot water may be bad. It could also be the timer control unit. If you are savy with a multimeter you can check to see if the hot water solinoid is getting 120vac applied to it when it should be running hot water. If so the solinoid is bad if not the timer control unit is out...

It sounds like you have the hot and cold water lines to the washer reversed.  Try turning off the tap for the hot water then setting the washer to just cold wash and then  hot washif you get nothing on the cold and cold water when set to hot they are probably reversed.  Typically if the auto-temp control is broken you will only get hot or cold coming out on any setting.

hi,

try and switch your hot and cold water hoses around the other way. it should start the cycle with hot and rinse cold.. If it still does it you may have to have it serviced..

check hoses connections- hot to hot and cold to cold at both ends. If not ok, check if you are setting the machine correctly. These days washing in cold water is effective.

Warm Wash: Force it to be cold?

you will need to put a "Y" in the cold water line and remove the hot water hose otherwise the hot water solenoid will open up and let in hot water,if you have cold water to both solenoids then you can get done what you want to accomplish, wash and rinse in cold water on all cycles

Whirlpool washing machine...only uses hot water

Make sure the hoses are connected correctly to the water valve on the machine. The connections will be marked with an "H" and a "C".

Given they are correct, most current washing machines have and auto temp feature on the water fill. It allows even cold water settings to bring in some hot water to make sure the water temp is hot enough to efficiently disolve your laundry detergant. The preset temps are usually around 75* for cold, and 105* for warm. Hot water comes in at whatever temp your household water temp is.

This is a Hot and Cold fill m/c.
You obviously have the hot water supply connected to the cold in let valve..
at the rear they are marked H and C .
Make sure the cold water is connected to C,and the hot to H.
Plz rate my solution. Thanks.
