Motherboard dead no display no sound..on boot

  • zee38 Mar 23, 2008

I have same problem with my ECS KN1 SLI Lite.

Mobo powers up all fans spinning but no beeps no signal. This sys when I assembled did gave me no start at very first boot I replaced power supply then it started working, but some times it showed same signs what I'm having now but a restart and it worked fine.

I checked and removed everything & tested in other systems all worked fine. Changed power supply too. I always used 24pin 450 or higher power supplies.

I removed the board from the case installed video card new power supply and powered it up same problem.

One main thing I noticed this board has a big plastic back plate below CPU housing and it touches the case floor and when screws are installed this board bends that’s what probably killed my board.

I noticed lot of postings about this board may be it needs a special case or longer spacer which support the board or may be it had a manufacturing flaw?

    Any suggestions comments ?

Hi,
If do not hear any beep then it means that the mother board is dead you can try clear the BIOS by removing the battery of the mother board for 5 mins or by shorting the jumper for clearing the BIOS if that didn't help then you have to repair the board or replace it.

MOTHER BOARD NOT POWERING ON

Hi,

I want you to try first swap the power supply box  of the PC if no change ?
go to the CPU socket remove the CPU check if any component is burnt that area if ok put a new CPU  then on it .
If still behaving the same ,then the mother board is bad get a new mother board

Good luck

Power supply Ok.But CPU fans started with seconds It's stop.

sounds to me like your mainboard is bad, i bet if you closely inspect the capacitors around the cpu one or more is bulged out or leaking

No beep,No Display on my monitor, only CPU heatsink fan is moving

have you thought about changing the battery on the motherboard, also checking that the fan on the cpu is seated properly with enough heatsink paste as both these issues will stop the pc from booting

Hi:
These two may not be the same problem.
As another has said, the first one could be CMOS problem. Get to the cmos by hitting del. on most machines, some use other keys, make sure you watch it closely as it turns on, and hit the key.
See what the settings are. If the settings are ok, then go on to test, if not suspect the battery. Replace it and set the bios/cmos to the settings preferred.

Second one....
You said it turned off. Suspect the following:
Power supply, CPU or fan or both, possible other causes such as hard drive.

Usually the ram would not cause a problem like this...you would at least have some power at the mother board or fans.
You can try this.
The power switch can be a problem here. Test the power switch to see if it is good. One way to do that is to disconnect it from the mother board or remove it from the case, and use an ohm meter to test it(with the power off of course). Some power switches are hooked directly to the power supply. You can remove the power switch from the case, then short the two wires to try to start the system, if that does not work, then it probably is not the switch.

Remove all pc cards from the mother board. unplug any fans, and the hard drive/s, except the cpu fan...we need that.
Only the power supply should be connected, then try, if nothing, continue to test.
See if the computer will turn on. If it turns on, then you need to test each item one by one to see where the computer will not start. The reason I say this, is that all the later power supplies will detect when a short or problem with a component happens. The power supply built in protection will not allow the system to start at all. However, you may hear a very small click or the fans may move a little bit, that is only if there is a problem somewhere in the system when all is hooked up.

Try another power supply, if you can get another one, pref. to borrow or use one you have around.
Examine all cables going to the mother board. Check that they are plugged in correctly, especially the power cables.

One thing here that can stop a computer is a bad CPU, or connections which are not right, that is they could have come loose. What you can try is to carefully remove the CPU (make sure you know how, and how to replace it) examine it on top and underneath. If the CPU had thermal compound on the surface, you may have to clean it and then replace new compound. You can carefully clean the top and the fan heat sink with rubbing alcohol, then dry it, and place new compound on it before putting back.
If so far nothing still is working, then you need to see if the CPU is good. Have a friend or use another computer to test it. If the CPU is good, continue.

If you are still having problems, the mother board may have a problem, such as a burnt out chip or other component.
These test options should get you to find the problems.
