Question about Sony KV-27S65 27" TV

1 Answer

Picture gone TV acts like the power is out, but has a standby/timer light that flashes four times then stays out for an equal amount of times before flashing again. Otherwise, the power button seems to be responding, as if on a relay, but there is still no attempt at a picture. I have the sound running through a receiver and do not know if that might be another clue, but the sound is barely audible. It runs from the Comcast receiver to the A/V receiver. This TV is about two years old but ran day and night. (I am grateful for the peace and quiet but the wife and kids are getting on my case...)

Thanks for the response. There is no power to the tube (no static), although the blinking led proves the power is on. The audio comes from the comcast box and goes to surround sound. I have no idea if the TV sound is working or not. The only thing plugged into the TV is the power and a single (yellow lead) RCA cable from the Comcast receiver. None of the wires have been disconnected since it worked last, and I checked to be sure nothing came loose.

The half inch of dust inside and the 2001 sticker make me think it's time to get a new one. Even with the tools, I'm not smart enough to solder in a new part on the circuit board to fix the power sensing problem. I'm guessing a capacitor cooked (or something similar) and I'll spend more time with the family until my wife gets a job and a new TV. The paperclip didn't do the trick, but it's a good thing to know. Thanks for your time and interest.

If you put the back of your hand to the front of the picture screen does it make the hair stand out like static? If not there is no high voltage..Does the audio come from the receiver to the tv or to a suround sound system? My first suggestion is to disconnect the tv from every thing. Plug in an exterior antenna/rabbit ears or just a paper clip into the cable connector and see if you get any local channels. If you have none available, connect to a known good dvd or vcr and see if it works correctly. If so then something has died in the receiver modulator. It might then be possible to use only the audio/video outputs on the receiver to get everything working, however the problem could be deaper in the receiver and not able to be bypassed.....Let me know what you have tried and if anything works. etc.....

Unhook the one wire coming from the receiver and plug a paper clip into the antenna jack on the tv to see if anything appears. Some sets won't static unless there is a load on the picture tube. The flashing power light makes me think something is wrong with the tv power sensing circuits. Some will go into what is called shut down when it thinks the high voltage is too high to eliminate the posibility of producing xrays. Do you hear a ticking or is it silent. Either way it is probably ready to go see the doctor, or depending on the value, laid to rest. Sometimes these can be repaired for little, but depending on how proud your technician is of his time, can prove to be out of the question. Might be in the shop for many days.

The Standby/Power light of the TV blinks when there is any internal malfunction in the TV. The self-diagnostic function of the TV will cause the STANDBY light to blink or flash when the television detects an issue. The number of times the STANDBY light flashes corresponds to a specific issue.

Few examples are given below; some of the issues may be resolved without the need for service.
1 blink / 2 blinks / 5 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set.
3 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a power-related problem with your set. The set will need to be serviced to allow a technician to determine the specific issue that needs to be repaired. If the power light flashes three times in sequence in a Lamp TV, the lamp cover is not securely attached. Reattach the lamp cover to resolve this issue.
4 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a back light or lamp power problem.
6 blinks: - This indicates that there is some kind of audio problem with your set.
7 blinks: - This indicates that there is a temperature problem with your set. Please check to make sure that the air vents on the sides and back of the set are not blocked or clogged and there is adequate ventilation around the television. We recommend that you check and clean the vents periodically to make sure the set receives adequate air flow. If the problem continues, the set will need to be serviced.
8 blinks: - This indicates that there may be a video-related problem with your set. If the flash sequence is not listed above or the light continues to flash, follow the steps below to perform a power reset:
Try the following steps to check if the issue can be resolved.
Turn off the television.
Unplug the television power cord from the electrical outlet.
Let the television remain without power for 60 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the electrical outlet.

If the television is plugged into a power strip or surge protector, remove it from the power strip or surge protector and plug it directly into the wall outlet. If the issue is resolved, the problem is with the power strip or surge protector and not the television.

If the issue continues to occur, service may be required.

Thanks for using Fixya.

Standby light stays on and the tv will not go on

Please check batteries in remote that seems not working. Sony TV would either turns On or standby light will blinks if TV gets any internal problem.
You question shows standby light stays On that means TV does not receive power on command from remote.
If standby light is blinking in sequence, let me know how many times it is blinking and also intimate exact model number of TV to find out possible solution.
