It's actually "control panel", "regional settings", "languages", "details" (if that's the English), and then finally the word "keyboard" appears for the first time. I deleted English and life is back to normal. Thank you!

When you change the keyboard language on the control panel, make sure you delete ALL Other languages and leave only english or your correct keyboard layout installed.
Then restart the PC.

You have to go to Control panel > Keyboard > "Input Locales" tab > Add
Then, in input locales, select "English (United States)" and in the "Keyboard Layout/IME" select "United States-international".

Don't forget to rate "FixYa" if this resolved your problem!
    Cheers!

Also, after installing the other Keyboard layout (with the steps described), DELETE all other layouts except the one you installed (US - United States-International).

since the laptop is only a few days old I would recommend performing a factory restore to the "out of box" state.

Bill:

Drying the keyboard with a hair dryer was not a good idea... Under the keys are layers of mylar with the circuits for the keys printed on them. If the mylar got hot it wrinkled and the keyboard may have been ruined. Try the keyboard after the batteries have dried, and if it does squirrely things, you'll probably have to replace the keyboard.

The keyboard does not type all th letters

Most of the letters that affected fall in to the same line or area. You may need to replace the whole keyboard in order to fix this problem

Keyboard buttons coming out with diffrent symbols to what i want

Hi,
You have your Num Lock on, look for the Num Lock key (should be located in the top right of the keyboard) press that key and your keyboard will return to normal.
Sometimes you have to hold down Fn or shift when you press the Num Lock key.

Good luck.

Laptop keybroad produces mulitiple letters at once instead of the single letter pressed

Hi there.
It sounds to me like the keyboard could be faulty, but you say that the keyboard is set to Latin?
If your first language is English then the keyboard should be set to US or UK keyboard.
To change this go to the control panel, select regional and language options and set the keyboard layout to US or UK, save the changes and restart the computer, see if that helps.
If not its a faulty keyboard.
Please post back with the results and for any additional advice.

Good luck and thanks for using FixYa!!

I'm not sure I understand completely the problem you are having with your Aspire. However, it seems you are having problems with keyboard, touchpad etc.

One thing I realized a few months ago, mine started going crazy. I searched the web all over and found that REMOVING the battery completely solved the problems with the keyboard and touchpad problems.

I have to use mine without the battery in. Only plugged in.

Try removing the battery, leaving it out, plugging in the power supply and see if that does not fix the craziness of the touchpad and keyboard.

Good luck!
