Question about Belkin (F5D7050) 802.11a/g/b Wireless Adapter

Wirless Network keeps failing

Hi,
I recently bought a new laptop, HP - Compaq 8510p. This laptop has the wireless connection built in, WLAN and Bluetooth. I have configures my Belking wireless router as a WEP 64 bit security interface. The laptop has no problem seeing the router through the SSID I configured. I configured the Wireless network connection on my laptop to the WEP code and at times I get a connection. However, my laptop does not indicate so "Limited connection or no connectivity" but I am able to access the internet. However, this is short lived as it loses the connection eventhough my signal strength is excellent. One more bit of info is that I can connect to the LAN cable on the same internet provider and get a good, constant connection. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is there something that I should be configuring on my laptop for the wireless connection ?

Disabled the WEP security and connection worked fine. Need to still investigate WEP or WAP security issue with router.

Hi,

It is possible that you need to further fine tune your WEP configuration. To verify if it's the security lock, try running the laptop and the router without the WEP security (disabled) and determine if you still get the "Limited connection or no connectivity".

If yes, you have just eliminated that area and could consider other possibilities, otherwise you then have to concentrate on the WEP security.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back on any developments (or lack thereof) or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

    Hi again,

Another thing you can try is to set the laptop to use static IP address and network configurations.

    Hi again,

Glad that you can now connect and have confirmed that it is the WEP security that causes the "Limited connection or no connectivity".

It is a known compromise that when security is enabled, the speed suffers.

If your purpose in using the WEP is to prevent others from connecting, may I suggest MAC filter instead (if your router has this feature). You forego the WEP but still maintain some security.

Another thing that has been found effective is to use Static IP Address assigned to your Belkin F5D7050 WiFi connection and not the DHCP handed out address. This would mean moving from "Obtain an IP Address automatically" to "Use the following IP Address" in the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties of the WiFi Networking Properties. The configuration must be appropriate to the routers.

Sorry the "...Belkin F5D7050..." should read "...HP - Compaq 8510p built-in WLAN..."

Tiscali wirless connection issue

Sounds like the router may need a firmware update as the DHCP service is failing to run correctly.

You can however just use a static ip address.
First of all find out the network address in use.
eg. 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.1.1 - 192.168.2.1
to find out, - start menu - run - cmd - ok - ipconfig

1. Log on to the client computer as Administrator or as Owner. 2. Click Start, and then click Control Panel. 3. Click Network and Internet Connections. 4. Click Network Connections. 5. Right-click Wireless Network Connection, and then click Properties. 6. Click the General tab, click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) in the This connection uses the following items list, and then click Properties. 7. In the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties dialog box, click Obtain an IP address automatically (if it is not already selected), and then click OK.

Note You can also assign a unique static IP address in the range of 192.168.0.2 to 192.168.0.254. For example, you can assign the following static IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway:

IP Address 192.168.0.2
Subnet mask 255.255.255.0
Default gateway 192.168.0.1

Wlan W200 connection problem

There is a solution to this, and you won't have to buy a new card. The folks at HP, however smart in their design of this laptop, have not properly updated the bug fix for the wlan w200 drivers. What you'll need to do is actually take back your network adapter driver all the way back to Version 1.0 revision C. I did this with an n610c that I got for free because it was BSOD'ing every time the wireless was turned on. For the most part the wireless can handle older routers and wlan areas, but will BSOD when within range of a wireless "N" adapter. Simply download the driver version 1.0c and you should have no more issues.

Tip: You can disable the card manually by pressing your "Fn + F2" keys, rather than trying to navigate your menus before getting the BSOD.
