I have an ITC222 chassis that the screen went hourglass and wont converge. I have the PS board and amplifier board out of it and the PS board has a 12 pin header with + and - voltages next to it. Can I just plug it back in except for the amplifier ribbon and check for proper voltages at the pins to test it? If so what should I connect the ground to and what are the voltage tolerances?
If all colors are off and If autoconvergence fails right away, it might be a screen sensor that has gone bad. You will have to enter the service mode to see if the sensors calibrate correctly. If the autoconverge fails partly through then it is more than likely a convergence PS problem. if only one color is off its probably going to be a convergence amp problem.

The Fuse for the convergence power supply has blown You'll also notice that the convergence settings have disappeared from the on screen menu. The fuse likely blew because of a fault on the convergence board. If you've never done soldering or dismantled a TV before this is probably not the best place to start. The back cover needs to be removed and the fuse (see picture) identified, the deflection/power supply board needs to be unplugged (label or mark all connectors beforehand) and flipped over and the fuse checked/replaced. You need a soldering iron and solder ****** or solder wick and a multi-meter to check the fuse. If you want to tackle it yourself see attached image for reference or get a quote from a repair shop (approx $200-$300 Total) the convergence board may also need repair.
Symptom: Dead Set- TV Tries to Start or intermittent dead.
The set could be in shut down mode due to a fault detected in the power supply, vertical or horizontal deflection circuits. The common problems with this chassis that will cause a dead set or intermittent dead set symptom are, bad power supply capacitors, bad flyback, bad HV cap in horizontal output circuit and cold solders (on opposite side of board) especially under the flyback area. To gain access to replace any of these parts the back cover needs to be removed and the deflection/power supply board needs to be unplugged (label or mark all connectors beforehand) and flipped over. These are only the most common problems and it could be any number of other faults. If you have electronic (TV) repair experience check the items mentioned (see picture), otherwise it's best to seek a qualified RCA tech for an estimate/service call. ·Symptom: Erratic operation of set – turns off by self, the volume or channel changes by self or on screen menu appears intermittently. Switches on the front panel assembly (FPA) problem. What happens with this model is the FPA switches (one or more) start to conduct just as if someone was pressing the buttons. This in effect locks up the system control or causes it to initiate erratic commands. The way to determine if the FPA is bad is to remove it by unplugging from set. This requires front panel disassembly. Note: The remote will still work with the FPA removed so the set can be tested. Hope this helped, johnnydiode, Fixya.
unfotunatly the itc222 has no convergence ics it uses a series of trsansiitors. the fact that u have some areas of the screen clear may mean you need a technician to do a service alignment. when you go into setup does the convergence crosshairs move up and down and side to side on both the blue and red? if they do their may not be a problem with the power board. ONe more thing if you replace this board you will still need a technician to do a service alighnment

no the board that has the FL231 on is the ITC222 deflection board. The other board is above the chassis in a seperate frame that runs across the set the convergence power supply is the board on the left above the board where the fL231 is. Yes the ITC222 and ITC222A are the same chassis. As for the service manual that site should have the service manual under the thomson category as the ITC 222 chassis is actually a thomson chassis made for RCA.
You most likely need a new convergence power supply board if fl231 keeps blowing thats the most likely cause, also check for shorthed capacitor cp231. If you need a link to get a replacement convergence power supply board, let me know I know where you can get them.
If this is a ITC222 chassis then you need to check the fuses that are near the flyback. I would also unsolder all the pins on the flyback and re-solder them as the factory lead free solder tends to crack and cause issues with the convergence. Re-solder it with common 60/40 solder you can pick up from Radio Shack or other places.
If this is a ctc 195 chassis then your likely problem is the convergence power supply that is mounted above the main board and the dynamic convergence board. On the board is an IC (usually) that can be changed: STK 730-010 I believe is the correct number...you can check the number, If it has a single transistor on the metal heat sink, I would suggest changing the whole board. Has only two plugs: one on each end of the board.
