    Hi
I HAVE DONE THE RESTORE AS ADVISED. THE ONLY WAY I CAN TEST IT, IS BY OPENING AS MANY APPLICATIONS AS POSSIBLE. I HAVE DONE THIS, AS I OPENED AN ACCOUNTS PACKAGE THE PAGE HAS FREEZED. I HAVE TRIED TO CLOSE IT,IT
WILL NOT,I HAVE CLOSED ALL OTHER PROGRAM'S BUT STILL THE ACCOUNTS PROGRAM WILL NOT, THE SALT/PEPPER SYMBOL IS ON SCREEN BUT THE PROGRAM WILL NOT. I MUST SAY THAT THE DISPLAY'S DID NOT MALFUNCTION THIS TIME, IT APPEAR'S TO ME THAT THE ONLY WAY IS TO SWITCH IT OFF AND START AGAIN. THE FAN KEEPS COMING ON FREQUENTLY AS IF IT IS WORKING HARDTO NO AVAIL.
    MANY THANKS GERAINT28

actually its very easy depends on your operating system go to start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
Pick the nearest previous date that the computer worked perfect. Then next to complete system restore. If you are in US i can call you if you wish.

Locate application that causing high system resource and memory allocation, Reintstall are tune up accordingly. you can see the active applications by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, and check them at "Processes" tab
Then you will see the applications and their Memory and CPU resources

ATI FireGL 8800 graphic card show black screen in digital mode

You didn't tell more details about your problem with your graphics card so I can troubleshoot what will be the problem with it. Before I solve it, lemme ask you a few question:
Since your OS is Win XP, is it 32bit or 64bit? What is your CPU frequency clock speed? What application does your graphics has a problem? And also, what is your monitor's maximum resolution? And what is your mobo (sometimes this has some source of issues).
I'll wait for your response to this. Thank you.

I have a nVidia Quadro2 MXR/EX video card which works fine on the analog input but when you use the digital input the screen sometimes flashed at startup and then goes blank. If you move the mouse,...

There are a few things that come to mind here. Number one is to try a different and known functioning DVI cable. Maybe see if you can recreate the problem simply by wiggling the dvi cable. If there are any splitters/adapters, remove them and plug the cable straight from the video card to the display. Make sure the display is set to digital input mode. When you are using the digital cable, make sure to completely remove the analog cable. See if this problem happens outside the operating system (such as in the system bios, if it does, this indicates a hardware issue). Finally, the digital input on the monitor could be having an issue, try a different monitor or try this monitor with digital input from another system.

A generic question about a video card - I currently have a nvidia fx5200 (I think that's it) 256MB memory on the card and I installed a fan cooler for it. I just bought a 20" lcd Monitor, but when...

Viewing movies on a computer is not really just based on how big is the video card RAM. Try watching a high resolution movie or from an original DVD. It should not pixillate as long as the file is supported and the your monitor can project clearly 256RAM is sufficient.
But if your a gamer and want a higher resolution, that is the only time you'll need not just the RAM but also the speed. If your looking for an upgrade and your not doing multitasking on you computer you should settle on 256 to 512MB but with a faster RAM DDR5.

ATI RAdeon HD2400 in Dell Optiplex 755.

From the AMD.Com website: Display Support
  • One Dual-Link DVI-I connector for high-resolution digital displays
  • ATI Radeon™ DVI-I to HDMI2 with 5.1 audio (adapter)
  • One VGA analog connector
  • HDTV Component (YPrPb) output (adapter)
  • Drive two displays simultaneously with independent resolutions and refresh rates4
  • TV output requires HDMI, component, S-video or composite cable (not included)
Two integrated DVI display outputs
  • Primary supports 18-, 24-, and 30-bit digital displays at all resolutions up to 1920x1200 (single-link DVI) or 2560x1600 (dual-link DVI)1
  • Secondary supports 18-, 24-, and 30-bit digital displays at all resolutions up to 1920x1200 (single-link DVI only)1
  • Each includes a dual-link HDCP encoder with on-chip key storage for high resolution playback of protected content2
It does using dual link DVI. Is that the cable you are using?

Switch to alternate 2 computers and dual monitors

What you probably want is a KVM (Keyboard, Video, Mouse) switch that supports dual monitors. It's a simple device that allows you to plug multiple computers into one set of monitors, keyboard, and mouse and switch between controlling them.

I don't know of any that support mixing analog and digital connections for the monitors, but using a VGA to DVI adapter for one of the monitors should solve that problem cheaply.
