Jerry's answer is right. But you said green and green/ white. Really the solid color/ blue, orange, green or brown would go to the red and blue/white or orange/ white or Green/ white or brown/white would go to the green. These are the most common colors. What really matters is what is hooked up outside at the telephone interface. I would check there and wire it the same. It will be trial and error sometimes.

The blue and blue/white attach to the red and green wires behind the jack assembly. The other colors are only used for a 2nd and 3rd line number. Thank You Jerry

Phone Jack Wiring Problem

Your apartment is wired for two lines but you are using only one of the two. Your phone jack has red and green terminals for one line and yellow and black terminals for the other (old color codes). The four wires coming in to your apartment are actually two lines: orange/white and white/orange plus blue/white and white/blue (new color codes). One of those lines is active. Connect the orange/white wire to the red terminal and the white/orange wire to the green terminal. Plug in your phone and listen for a dial tone. If no tone, disconnect the first line and connect the second pair of wires. Listen again. DO NOT CONNECT ANY WIRES TOGETHER. Just follow the steps above. If you still don't get results, the phone company may not have activated your connection

Telephone jack wiring

Most cheap jacks have 4 wires, red, green, yellow & black. Most modern houses have wires paired up (twisted pair) like blue & white with blue line or stripe. Line 1 is red/green or blue/white. Line 2 is yellow/black or orange/white(with orange line/stripe).

I'm installing 2 phone jacks in my newly remodeled home. We are supposed to have one phone line. Each of the boxes with phone wires in them has two cables coming out of it. In the first box, the one cable...

Pity that whoever did your remodel didn't give you a floor plan. In new construction, we make everything go to a central point. Old style was to loop everything through. It would be easy to tell, because you'd see the loops.

If you want to do this yourself, and save some money, give this a try.
The color code is that the green/red/black/yellow go to the jack. Hook all 4 wires (8 because you're going to hook both cables together to a jack) to the jack. Then, down the road, when someone has to add a second line they won't have to open this back up again. When it comes to the paired cable, look at the wires. One of the wires has more white than blue (White/Blue lead) and one has more Blue that white (blue/white lead) and so forth. You're going to be working with the blue pairs and the orange pairs, and spare out the green and brown pairs.

Strip the 4 remaining wires (the ends so they can go on the screw terminals) and connect them as follows:

White/Blue to Green Blue/White to Red White/Orange to Black Orange/White to Yellow.

If you're using Insulation displacement jack (the kind with caps where you push the wires into the slots), STOP! You're going to need more parts.

How do i connect a telephone wire to an rj11 plug. What is the order of the wires for us telephones.

dialtone should go on the green and red wires of the jack for 1 line service, yellow and black for a second line.
Depending on the type of wiring that your dealing with the color code can change. if your wiring has white wires with little dashes of color on them then the code is:
green = white/blue (mostly white with blue dashes)
red = blue/white (mostly blue with white dashes)
black= white/orange (mostly white with orange dashes)
yellow= orange/white (mostly orange with white dashes)

No service

What color wires were there ???
What kind of jack, a new one that had...
white blue/blue
white orange/orange
white green/ green
white brown/brown
?????

If so, the white/white blue would go to the same wires.
If you had red/green and black/yellow, the red/green should go to the white blue/blue.

Phone socket

I found some good information on this site: http://www.ling.upenn.edu/~kurisuto/phone_wiring.html.

He lists that the old style wire has become obsolete, and shows a diagram of how they line up to the new style.

I would like to know how to wire a rj45 socket please

There are two standards, 568A and 568B. As long as both ends of the cable are wired alike, it doesn't matter which you use.

For the 568A:
1 - White / Green
2 - Green / White
3 - White / Orange
4 - Blue / White
5 - White / Blue
6 - Orange / White
7 - White / Brown
8 - Brown / White

For the 568B, just swap the Green pair and the Orange pair.

Phone line/phone jack problem

The wiring on the jacks is set up for a 2 line phone.

If you take the jacks apart, you will see either:
A) red, green, and black, yellow
B)white blue/blue white and white orange/orange white

You need to swap the pairs.
If there are red/green/black/yellow wires. remove the yellow/black and move them to where the red/greens are. Then put the red/green wires, where the yellow/black used to be.

OR, you need to swap the orange and the blue wires.
