Question about Creative Labs Zen V MP3 Player

1 Answer

Player comes up not connected....

When I connect the player the doced logo appears on the screen however it seems to be moody and in the creative software I keep getting "player not connected" message...The stupid windows thing recognizes it though and offers numerous actions, none of which are the ones I want. I was trying to update the firmware so that I could use it with plays for sure....so now I have no firmware, I have downloaded the new but am unable to install it as the installation software is also informing me that the player is not connected....Earlier this morning it was connected fine, now it comes up not connected ...I'm at the end of my rope.....

i install all the software and everthing seems fine, but when i try to copy any files onto the device, it tells me that its not connected and to plug it in and try again. i've been doing this for a week now with no results. i thought it was cause my computer is kinda old (compaq presario 5000), but im seeing similar problems with other creative products on your site. any ideas on what to do? ive tried everything i can think of.

Make sure you have media player 11
If you can, the best test is to try your player with another PC, to see if you still have the problem. This localises whether the problem is with the PC (most likely the USB) or the player. See the link below (search on "connection problems") for a lot more troubleshooting on this.
Download recovery tool off creative's website.
go to my computer > click on hardware tab >
click on device manager button > in the is next screen on the bottom should have>>universal serial bus controllers
(write these down just in case it cant find them)
right click on them and uninstall
reboot let windows reinstall them

Also told Microsoft hotfix causes this problem try uninstalling the last hotfix
If that doesn't fix it try the USB cable

My creative zen v plus is not detected by my pc when connected it

I had problem like that, i m afraid the only solution is to reload firmware - you can do it on your own (try to hold play button and turn it on, menu should appear, choose reload firmware, but you need your comp to detect player to do it i m afraid) anyway, i found pro to do it for little money :p if your zen is new creative service should do it for you for free

My creative zen v plus is not detected by my pc when connected its screen has reddish lines neither it is shutting down nor it is working

Using the instructions below try Cleanup first, if that doesn't work... (if you have a backup of all your music on your computer), try the format option

This is from Creative's website:
Zen V Plus and Zen V
  1. Detach your player from the PC if it is connected, and turn off the player.
If the player stops responding, you can reset the player. To reset the player, gently
insert a thin object into the Reset hole located below the power switch.
2. Press and hold the Play button while powering on your player.
3. When the player displays the Creative logo, release the Play button.

It will display the following options:
Clean Up
Scans the player and removes invalid links from its music library.
Does not affect music files themselves.
Format (All) Caution! Erases all content!
Save a copy of your player's content before formatting.
Reload OS/ Firmware Caution! Erases your player's firmware.
DO NOT select the Reload Firmware option unless you have access to a PC and you have downloaded the necessary firmware to install.
Reboot Reboots the device.

Zen is not connected

I found a solution at a Creative dealer site in the UK....it worked for me when nothing else did.

This unit comes with a "hidden" recovery accessory...be careful in this area if you do not know what you are doing.

Hold the power switch to the left and at the same time use a paperclip to push the Rest button on the bottom of the unit....remove the paperclip and as soon as the Creative logo appears on the screen, release the power switch. A recovery menu will appear. I selected "Clean" from the screen and waited about 5 minutes for process to complete. When that was finished I selected "Reboot"....after it rebooted, my computer recognized the unit. I was afraid that my files (music, pics etc) would be lost, but it was all there in perfect condition.

Hope it helps

Sounds like it may be the index in your Music Library. Try going into Recovery Mode; remove battery, hold power switch to ON, replace battery, release power switch when the Recovery Mode screen appears on the screen. Run Option 1 CleanUP, after it completes run Option 4 Restart. You will get a Rebuilding Library screen when it reboots, that's normal, then it should go back to your startup screen. Good luck and let us know what happened
