See if the latest drivers are installed for the device, by going to Acer's website.
If it is an old laptop and the same was working on the earlier installed operating systems, and now it is not working with new os .. check for the drivers.
And if all of a sudden this happened check for a cable connector which might be right below the keyboard of the laptop. be carefull when you open the keyboard, and just follow the cable from the speakers and you will be able to locate the connector , check whether the connector is loosened of disconnected. Hope your problem will be solved, Cheers-parveen

Skype not working

Sir,

Click this link for more information........

http://support.skype.com/index.php?_a=knowledgebase&_j=questiondetails&_i=35

Also Check........

On a PC with external speakers and also a headset with microphone. Windows XP is configured so that standard audio are external speakers and standard microphone is the headset. Skype is configured to use the headset for audio in and out.

This way one can listen to sound from the PC and from MP3 players through external speakers and if there is a call to make or take, this is going through the headset.

But now there is the problem that the noise level for the headset is too low. Increasing volume has no effect on the headset, it only affects the external speaker's volume.

Now the solution: Going to the control panel and opening the sound setting, go to the audio tab. The external speakers are selected as default. Just temporarily select the headset and then click on volume just below. You can now set the volume for the headset, click OK and click cancel (!!!) on the sound control dialog box. This way the external speakers remain as default output.

Skype-->Tools -> Options -->Sound Devices-->audio device/USB/etc Audio Device (do NOT use windows default device)
You can also tick the ring pc speaker check box as this is a good backup to alert you even
if the main speakers are off or turned down.

Windows:
Start-->Control panel-->Sound and Audio devices
On the audio tab set the default playback device to your main soundcard(AC97/Audio-chip/add-on-adapter), etc.
Your installed audio device must be present there.
If not, reinstall audio device

thanks
good luck

It sounds like you have FEEDBACK

Open volume control.

When the box with all the sliders opens up click on OPTIONS (top left)
Click PROERTIES
Tick RECORDING then clck OK

The slider box will swap to the RECORDING slider box
Select the one you want to use as the recording SOURCE and put a tick in the box at the bottom.

NOW check that you dont have the microphone level turned too far up !
done it myself before now

Now click OPTIONS once again
Then PROPERTIES
Now tick PLAYBACK and then OK

You should now be back in the normal playback slider box
Whilst you were in the properties for either recordeing or playback you may have noticed a list of devices to show them as sliders tick them

External mike doesn't work

I'm assuming you have Windows Vista. If so, you may need to change the default microphone, particularly if you have a built-in microphone on the computer.
1. Right-click the speaker icon next to the clock in the system tray.
2. Select "Recording Devices"
3. Select "Microphone" or whatever item you want to record with.

There will be a VU meter showing the input level. Try talking into you mike and see if the VU meter goes up. If so, you're good to go.

If not:
1. Click the "Properties" button in the screen mentioned above
2. Move the "Volume" and "Boost" sliders up.
3. Click "OK."
4. Check your VU meter again.

If this does not work it is possible you selected the properties for the wrong device. Click on another device and repeat the last 4 steps again.

This is a common problem with all DJ's I know. Sometimes this is due to the fact INADVERTLY one connects powered equipments to the jack. The card is OK, but the jack gets fried. One nice solution is using USB sound cards (the ones that resembles Pen-Drives) and be in business again.

Inbuilt speakers are not working

hmmm....only thing that might be the issue is the mute button is checked in the volume settings. OR, the connector underneath the keyboard, might be off a bit. This is a simple system, so it's either of those. If both speakers are out, then it's most likely the small connector that you can access under the keyboard. It's not too hard to get to, but be careful when pulling up the masking plastic prior to removing the screws.

Got backup?
