I appreciate the help but unfortunately to no avail.  Today I haven't been able to get it to boot.  Not even to several different bootable discs I have (i.e. 2 different windows disks, A recovery utility cd I have, )  I'll be a little more specific as to the symptoms.  When I press the power button it appears to post, then hard drive light illuminates for a second or two, then pc goes to look towards the dvd drive ( to look for any bootable media, as it should) then thats all she wrote green power light stays lit, but thats all the function it has.  When I could get it to boot I went into bios and made sure all settings where correct, which they were.
I think it might possibly be a problem with sys board.  All the different trouble shooting I've done points that direction.
The notebooks owner is one of my best customers and I've love to get this resolved as promptly as possible.
Where could I obtain that tool you mentioned earlier, I'm very interested.
    Thanks a bunch, Mike Stotz

Hello Mike:

Sometimes is the trouble here..but lets go through a few things to check...perhaps maybe one of mine someone else didn't think of...

1) remove the battery and unplug from the wall. Hold power button on...plug into power...let boot.

2) Perhpas it is software related...your MBR could be corrupt...boot to DOS (you can create a dos diskette from or simply hit F8 to boot in DOS mode. at the C prompt type FDISK/mbr. This will not harm your will rebuild your Masterboot record. There a few nasty viruses that hide in the MBR (Master Boot Record) running this ustility will wipe it out.

3) On the otherhand you could have a more serious problem...motherboard or CPU. TRoubleshooting this items in a laptop is a bit trickier than a could purchase one of those troubleshooters for about 20 plug intoLPT1 and USB...power laptop and read the lights.

Hope I have been soem help...

Good Luck my Friend

My coputer cannot boot from USB CD room

Hi, to boot your computer from CD, USB you need to set it on the bios setting menu. To make it you need to restart your machine then when you see the manufacturer logo (ie. Vaio or Toshiba) or when you saw motherboard manufacturer details (Usually 3-5 sec after restarting) try one of the f2, f9 or f12 keys (depends on your computer model) then enter the bios setting and search to "boot from" or something similar. after that you probably have choice to change it.hope it can solve the problem and please let me know for any further issue.Cheers

I keep getting a white blank screen on my Acer Aspire 4315. Sometimes on boot-up, other times while in the middle of a task. It is running Vista and has only 1GB of memory so I've ordered 2GB. Not sure...

A blank white screen generally indicates a video problem on a laptop. This can be a bad lcd data cable, a bad video driver, or an overheating/disconnecting video chip.

I cnt install win xp on my toshiba u300 laptop .....when i start installing window xp on my toshiba u300 there came that it didnt detect any hard drive on computer ... plz tell if u hav any solution 4...

If your laptop is like mine, it'll have a setting in Bios that needs to be changed in order to support XP.
In my laptop, there was a setting called Native SATA driver or something similar of that nature.
It took me quite some time to go through forums in order to find that out. Once that setting was changed, the notebook found the hard drive and I was able to install Windows XP.

Acer boots from xp

take it back to store. basically a hidden, but unremovable partition is causing the xp bootup. It happened to me aswell. They will probably give you a replacement as it is an unfixable problem. Even with new hard drive didnt fix it. Sorry about that.

Bios password

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news , but you are out of luck.

I saw a post in a forum that there may be a backdoor password of SKY_FOX , but it didnt work for that person.

On older systems , removing the CMOS battery and shorting two pins on the motherboard would clear the password. On newer systems it is held in non-volitale memory so this will not work. Also CMOS crackers worked on older systems but will not work on this one.

The only way to clear it is to replace the chip on the motherboard which contains the password. Which means you need a new motherboard as Siemens wont sell the chip by itself.

There is a similar situation with IBM thinkpads. There is a way to recover those but only by building a special device to interface with the com port, dump the results to a file and send it a guy who makes a living decrypting IBM passwords. He doesnt support your PC though. And your PC doesnt have a com port anyway.

From what I understand it is around $300 to ship it to Siemens to have them fix it. I think I would just get another PC.

See this thread for details on what others tried.

Dell D600 Wont turn on sometimes.

Reseat the harddrive (take out the screw and slide it in and out)

You can run diagnostics, during startup (just after Dell logo) press F12,then select Boot to Utility partition, or Diagnostic partition.

It may reveal you issue

Hope this helps
