Question about Panasonic DMR-E80H DVD Recorder

1 Answer

DMR-E80H Component output

I don't get any signal out of the component output...I have to use s-video.
Is there something I have to set to get it to work?
I'm trying to hook it up to a Sharp AQUOS LC32D43U currently, but I had the same problem with my previous TV.
Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

Yes, input source is selected and set to component.

  • richardbell Feb 11, 2008

It's a standard set of red, blue, green coded component cables connected from the component outs on the DMR-E80H to the component inputs on the Sharp according to the colors on the plugs. I did a firmware upgrade on the DMR-E80H a few years ago, none recently.

My Panasonic DMR-EH55 has suddenly stopped outputting. Regardless of whether I am using the HDMI or component outputs, my Sony tv indicates "no signal". What kind of problem am I looking at?

Try it with another TV, perhaps a friend's or neighbour's. If the problem persists, consult your local Pana service centre or a competent technician

My DMR_E80H recorder does not read blank dvd-r disks

I don't have a solution but I am having the same problem (same model DMR-E80H). It will read finalized dvds but won't recognize or play blank or non-finalized dvds. About a year ago I had to replace the hard drive . . . I'm just assuming that the dvd recorder is just slowly breaking down and will need some kind of repair of certain components. (I think we bought it new in 2003/2004?)

Im trying to connect my unit to my tv to record shows and i having trouble doing so please help i am hooking it up wrong

For OTA or CATV signals, you need to daisy chain the coax from the source (antenna for OTA) to the coax input on DVD recorder and then the coax out to the coax input of the TV. If you have a set-top cable box with an incoming CATV signal, it should be connected between the DVD recorder and the TV.

The unit can tune in and record 480i (SD) ATSC (OTA digital), NTSC (OTA analog), analog CATV and digital CATV channels.

A satellite receiver or a non-CATV cable box should get the incoming signal first and then have their composite video output (A/V) connected to the DVD recorder composite video input and then their coax (RF) output (if present) gets connected to the TV. For these, you would record from the IN1 or IN2 (press Select Input) instead of selecting a channel. Then connect the composite video out on the recorder to the TV's composite video in.

Digital signals are either enough to tune in or give no signal. So check that your antenna is correctly oriented for OTA.

Separately, you can connect the video signal when playing DVDs via composite (good signal) out and component out (better signal) out to the TV's matching input. For the component video, the sound is carried on a separate cable. Then set the TV to the input source.

In the case of wanting to watch a VHS tape while taping to a DVD, do not use the Component video source, set the TV to Input 1 (composite).

I hope this helps.

I have no signal with the video component (Y, Pb and Pr)

You may have to set-up the DVD player for component (Y,Pb,Pr) output instead of S-video. You may have to set DVD player to progressive-scan or 720p or 1080 video out, also.

How to transfer Panasonic DMR-E80H recorded DVDs to computer

I have to agree with XELIAM regarding finishing the disk, under the DVD "FUNCTIONS" selection from the remote. I also use the SLYSOFT products to transfer my videos to what ever other mode of video I wish to have, whether iPOD (MP4), or DIVX (AVI) or loads of other options. Slysoft makes a GREAT product

My DMR-E80H will no longer record onto blank DVDs

One solution is to clean the laser lens. Try using one of those lens cleaning CDs.

Also, sometimes the DVD may slip on the spindle, which may cause reading errors. Spindle cleaning usually involves taking the machine apart.

I can get composite video signal from coby dvd, but the component video shows no picture. Audio is OK. What could be the problem.

Hello,

Are you using component video cables for the component outputs on your tv? Plugging composite cables into component output generally will produce poor if any video.

Also, check the back of your dvd player to see if you need to flip a switch to enable component video output. Good luck.

Picture from analog tv signal is not sharp

I have this same machine, you did'nt mention what input you are using (composite, S-Video, component or HDMI) or what type of display you have (CRT, LCD, Plasma etc.).
If your T.V. has a HDMI input I recommend using that, if not and it's of fairly recent vintage use the component inputs (not to be confused with composite video inputs, or yellow RCA-type input).or at the very least use the S-Video input.
In the setup menu (on screen) try setting the "TV Screen" option to the 480p setting and if you are using the HDMI input try setting that to the highest resolution your T.V. has or set it to "Auto"
Finally in the on screen video menu select the "Video" setting and set the "Still Mode" option to automatic, and the "Output Level" to lighter or darker whatever your preference is.
Remember...Always use HDMI or component video inputs on your television (if it has those inputs)!
Hope this helps!
Joe

Fuzzy Picture

Are you using the component (RGB) outputs, and a Sony TV? I believe that there is something in the output of at least some Panny DVD recorders (over the RGB component path), which Sony TVs don't process properly.
